Chapman Yachting in collaboration with Short Marine have successfully sealed the deal on the multi-million-dollar sale of the magnificent 35m Crystal Lady – a custom-designed Warren Yachts superyacht and a true icon of Australian boat building.

Acting as Buyer’s agent, Chapman worked with their client’s brief to source the ideal motor yacht for bluewater cruising and exploring the South Pacific.

The four-month search resulted in the client’s purchase of Crystal Lady, berthed at Sydney Superyacht Marina.

Launched in 2003, Crystal Lady was designed by Sam Sorgiovanni (interior/exterior) and Peter Lowe/Phil Curran (exterior/naval architecture) and built by esteemed Australian shipyard Warren Yachts to ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) classification.

Generous deck spaces and wide beam are two of her characteristics.

Over the years, she has undergone several refits, including the most recent and extensive in 2023.

The impressive superyacht, renamed “Legacy Explorer” will be delivered to Chapman’s Queensland refit base at The Boat Works where she will undergo an expert ‘berth day’ to check all systems and refresh interiors and deck spaces ahead of an ambitious itinerary.

“Wherever Crystal Lady goes she turns heads,” stated Chapman Director, Cooper Chapman.

“She is truly one of a kind. At 35-metres and with all her on board features, she is well-equipped for world cruising. The owner plans to travel through the South Pacific up to Indonesia to explore the incredible islands and remote anchorages.”

Chapman has been appointed to handle the management, crewing and maintenance of Legacy Explorer in what Cooper Chapman described as “a coup” for his company.

“It is a milestone for Chapman Yachting.

We were appointed with a brief, we scouted several suitable vessels and landed on Crystal Lady. We undertook due diligence, then executed the sale on the superyacht and we have now welcomed it into Chapman management to operate service, maintenance, crewing and refit in-house.”

Cooper continued, “It was especially meaningful to work with Ryan Short of Short Marine. Our fathers were close friends and colleagues and we both grew up in the business, becoming friends at a young age. It was very cool to close this deal together.”

Ryan Short, Director of Short Marine, stated that the 35m Warren is significant for many reasons, primarily for being one of the last Warren Yachts built in Australia.

“There is no doubt she is historically significant,” he explained.

“It’s literally a world-cruising motor yacht and with her planning hull, can achieve 27 knots. It was beautifully built to world-class standard, and the original cabinetry and furniture are timeless. It’s a real credit to her owner and crew for her impeccable upkeep.

“Like a Rolex, it will retain its value and its place in the Australian boat building archives.”

Ryan agreed the partnership with Chapman was crucial in achieving the sale. “It was very satisfying to work with Chapman and we look forward to many more in the future.”
