U-Boat Worx has launched a new wet lease programme designed to enable commercial operators to offer submersible dives without the need to own a submersible or manage operations in-house. The Netherlands-based company, which manufactures manned submersibles, is offering a fully managed charter solution under this new model.

The wet lease programme provides access to two-, three-, five- or seven-seat submarines, as well as certified crew and pilots, ongoing maintenance and servicing, local permitting and compliance, and complete dive operations and logistics.

U-Boat Worx says it manages all operational responsibilities, allowing its clients to focus solely on guest engagement.

“With our wet lease model, operators no longer need to worry about recruitment, training, technical upkeep, or regulatory hurdles,” says Wilbert Beilsma, the company’s new commercial director.

“We’ve built this offering around one promise: You bring in the guests, we take care of the rest.”

Founded in 2005, U-Boat Worx is a manufacturer of submersibles for the private marine, research and cruise industry sectors. The company has more than 60 units in operation globally and has conducted more than 10,000 commercial dives.

The company states that its submarines are used across marine science and tourism, offering passengers access to underwater environments not typically seen from the surface, and helping to build an appreciation of the natural underwater world.

The wet lease programme builds on a series of pilot operations and expands the company’s flexible financial offerings. These currently include outright purchase, financial lease, operational lease and fractional ownership.

“Guests today are looking for extraordinary experiences, something they can’t find anywhere else,” says Roy Heijdra, marketing manager at U-Boat Worx.

“A submarine dive is the kind of bucket-list adventure that sets your destination apart. It creates buzz, drives word-of-mouth, and gives operators powerful content for their own marketing.”
