The Boat Works at Coomera on the Gold Coast, Queensland has in place stringent processes and sophisticated high-tech systems to ensure the marine and surrounding environments are protected.

Featuring sophisticated “first flush systems” that divert wastewater to the extensive bio gardens around the shipyard’s perimeter, ensuring no contaminants run-off to the river.

Consistent with the commitment to constructing an eco-friendly marina and shipyard, the comprehensive marine facility is poised to welcome even larger capacity sheds.

20-metre high purpose built super sheds are under construction and will accommodate refinishing works for vessels 50-metres in length, scheduled for completion in first quarter 2022.

As Shane Subichin, General Manager explains “We need more sheds to accommodate the influx. The demand we are experiencing in the marine sector represents an excellent opportunity for employment and a demand for skilled trades.”

This statement underscores where our marine industry is heading.

In early 2021, The Boat Works opened purpose-built workshops, creating additional service hubs for further marine professionals. This was the final opportunity for marine businesses to secure tenancies in the two yards located in the Gold Coast Marine Precinct.

Marine businesses such as the team at Superyacht Solutions, who offer high calibre painting and refinishing services, have recently taken up premises of the new position at The Boat Works.

With an international reputation for finishing hundreds of superyachts and pleasure craft, as well as ‘factory finishing’ new boats, large and small, for some of the most prominent manufacturers in Australia and abroad.

Superyacht Solutions’ most recent project involved significant works to an imported Princess 98, “Mira”, purchased in Greece by its Sydney-based owner and shipped to Australia in 2018.

During its five-month refit at The Boat Works, Mira has taken full advantage of the facilities.

“The Super Sheds allowed us to work 24/7, which was wonderful,” Captain Andy Forbes asserts. “The Boat Works doesn’t feel like a boat yard, it’s like a posh Mediterranean marina.

“I’ve been to more yards than I can remember, and there’s nothing laid out like The Boat Works. It has been designed and built with real vision.”

Steve Wicks, Director at Superyacht Solutions echoes that praise. “Superyacht Solutions was delighted that a valuable customer of many years standing provided an opportunity to utilise The Boat Works’ spectacular new facilities.”
