A fantastic family RIB, the Zodiac Pro 5.5 was chosen as the chase boat for the maiden voyage of a new Aussie icon.

21 July 2023

It was a pre-dawn start for the team from Sirocco Marine Queensland last week, accompanying the new Maritimo M75 on its journey from Maritimo’s Coomera headquarters to Sanctuary Cove Marina for its much-anticipated global launch.

The Zodiac 5.5-metre from the Pro range is a go-anywhere family or work boat, with a centre console, helm for two people, additional seating at the rear, forward seat and deep-V hull for exceptional stability and comfort in all conditions.

With durable Hypalon tubes and a 2.4-metre beam, it has plenty of deck space for equipment, on board storage and is rated for up to 12 people.

Fitted with a 100hp 4 stroke Honda outboard, the Zodiac 5.5 Pro can reach top speeds of 36 knots – ideal for sailing clubs, or island hopping, fishing, surfing, diving, and towing waterskiers or wakeboarders.

On this particular morning, it was a more sedate trip, tracking at 6 knots in the wake of the new Maritimo flagship, coinciding with the brand’s 20th anniversary.

“It’s a versatile, user-friendly boat, configurable layout,” says Ryan Slater, Director at Sirocco Marine Queensland. “I take the family out, all four of us, around the Broadwater to Jumpinpin and exploring the islands around North Stradbroke Island.

“With so many options, such as a T-Top or bimini, shower kit, roll bar and sundeck extension, the Zodiac Pro makes a great family runabout, as well as a yacht tender or commercial craft. It’s the ideal size for every application.”

Zodiac is the pioneer of Rigid Inflatable Boats, with a history dating back to the 1880s and producing the first RIBS for the French Naval Air Force in the 1930s. Today, Zodiac is represented by 1,600 dealers worldwide and has sold more than 1 million boats.

At the 2023 Sydney International Boat Show, 3 to 6 August, Sirocco Marine will have the complete range of Zodiac RIBS on show, covering the Medline, Pro and Open lines, including the popular larger models from 7.5 to 9-metres.
