Ares Yachts has released the first images of the 50.55m Spitfire, a superyacht project named in honour of the iconic British Supermarine Spitfire aircraft.

Designed by Bannenberg & Rowell and engineered by Lateral Naval Architects, Spitfire is based on the hull dynamics of the Ares 150 Bold offshore patrol vessel and incorporates advanced composite construction.

The yacht features a maximum speed of 22 knots and a cruising range of 2,200 nautical miles, extendable to 3,500 nautical miles with additional tankage. Its hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system includes twin 290kW electric motors, offering the flexibility of electric-only propulsion for up to an hour and up to 11 hours of silent operation with an optional extra battery package. Turkish shipyard Ares says the yacht’s variable-speed generators enhance its quietness and efficiency.

“The platform is constructed based on three fundamental principles: speed, lightweight construction, and iconic design proportions,” says Ares Yachts chairman Kerim Kalafatoğlu. “We have used an advanced hull form for both performance and superyacht levels of seakeeping.”

Spitfire’s design includes a low-profile superstructure, with bands of dark glass and a military grey finish. The beach club area features fold-down wings, a transformer platform for water access, and versatile layout options, including a lounge and cinema space or a gym, with generous natural light from skylights.

Living spaces are adaptable, with sliding glass walls and doors allowing the social areas to be connected or separated. The main deck offers a dining room and lounge with retractable glass sides, while the upper deck features a lounge, bar, grill, and sun lounger area.

The owner’s suite is located forward on the main deck with a 270-degree view and direct access to a private cockpit equipped with a Jacuzzi and outdoor movie theatre.

Construction of the composite hull is scheduled to begin by 2025. Ares Yachts says it will apply its fibreglass, aluminium, and steel expertise to the Spitfire project, drawing from its experience in building military and commercial vessels.

Ares Shipyard, founded in 2006 by the Kalafatoğlu family, has built over 230 vessels and is expanding into the luxury yachting market with the Ares Yachts brand, first introduced at the 2023 Monaco Yacht Show.

The Antalya shipyard features a production area of 40,000 square metres and a workforce of over 450, with capabilities for building vessels up to 90 metres.
