Volvo Penta has expanded its range of remanufactured drivelines for marine customers, now including complete engines D13, D8, D4, and D6, as well as the full Inboard Performance System (IPS) range. This expansion aims to improve customer experience by offering swift delivery of remanufactured products that are easy to install, all supported by the Volvo Penta Genuine Parts warranty.

With this expanded offering, Volvo Penta will provide complete remanufactured engines with increased availability. The D13 and D8 engines have been available since the first half of 2024, with the D4 and D6 engines expected to be available in autumn 2024. The remanufacturing process reuses up to 60% of components and can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 56% compared to the production of new engines.

For the first time, customers can purchase a complete propulsion package with a remanufactured Volvo Penta IPS driveline. These remanufactured drives are produced on the same production line as new units, maintaining the same quality and performance, and are covered by the Volvo Penta Genuine Parts warranty.

“Changing an engine is now straightforward with our newly expanded remanufacturing offer, delivering fast and easy-to-install solutions available via a call, click, or email,” says Roland Henriksson, global product manager at Volvo Penta.

“Whether you’re a company looking to ensure maximised vessel uptime or a leisure boater ensuring your long-planned voyage proceeds smoothly, we now offer our largest selection of remanufactured engines and drivelines, available from stock and ready for deployment in days.”

Remanufactured engines and drivelines from Volvo Penta are designed to extend the lifespan of both the engine and the vessel. The remanufactured components are updated to reflect the latest technical improvements, providing a viable alternative to new engines with faster turnaround times. For commercial operators, this offers an affordable and robust solution.

Customers benefit from enhanced uptime due to the immediate availability of remanufactured products, which are direct replacements for their existing equipment.

Volvo Penta has a long history of remanufacturing parts and marine engines, a practice that dates back to the 1970s. The staff at the firm’s dedicated remanufacturing facilities oversee the process, which involves collecting used Volvo Penta engines, drivelines, and parts.

These components are then sent to specialised facilities in Sweden and France, where they are disassembled, cleaned, inspected, and, where necessary, returned to like-new condition before being reassembled and tested.

Once remanufactured, engines undergo a series of end-of-line tests to ensure they meet original specifications for reliability, durability, and performance. Remanufactured components are covered by a standard 12-month warranty, which can be extended to 24 months or up to 600 hours for leisure use and 3,000 hours for commercial use when installed by an authorised Volvo Penta dealer.

This warranty also covers the labour involved in fitting the parts.
Volvo Penta says its remanufacturing process extends the lifecycle of engines without compromising quality or performance.

The next phase of the remanufacturing offer will include the D16 and D11 engines, which are scheduled for release as complete remanufactured engines during 2025-2026.
