New experiences connecting visitors with the world’s oldest culture showcase the reef, rainforest and outback of Tropical North Queensland.

Tourism Tropical North Queensland’s Deeper into Dreamtime  highlights the region’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts centres, events, tours and accommodation including new products operated by Traditional Owners.

Among the 21 touring options is Mandingalbay Ancient Indigenous Tours which launches its first schedule of bookable tours this month.

Mandingalbay Yidinji Country will offer overnight camping, and Deadly Dinner events, minutes from thousands of hotel rooms in Cairns city.

You can also camp on country at Talaroo Hot Springs, west of Cairns on the Savannah Way. Join the nightly Yarning Circle with the local Ewamian people and bathe in the warm healing spring waters.

Further west at Burketown, Yagurli Tours takes you stargazing on Australia’s largest saltpans where you will hear Dreamtime stories about Yaliya, the sky in local Gangalidda language, while gazing through powerful telescopes.

Indigenous connections to country run deep in Tropical North Queensland where the World Heritage values of the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics rainforest are intrinsically linked to the people who have lived there for tens of thousands of years.

Travel with Dreamtime Dive & Snorkel to hear about ancient reef knowledge or visit Mossman Gorge with a Kuku Yalanji guide to discover how the world’s oldest rainforest provided food, shelter and medicine for the rainforest bama (people).

Experience an ancient art gallery in the outback with Jarramali Rock Art Tours or learn to paint a boomerang while hearing Kuku Yalanji Dreamtime stories at Janbal Gallery.

Diverse Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art can be seen at the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair, one of several annual events covering art, music and dance for a deeper dive into a timeless culture.
