At the recent Boote Düsseldorf show, Finnish yard Baltic Yachts announced it is expanding into the realm of motor yachts, unveiling two new ranges, the larger ‘Motor Yacht’ range and the more diminutive ‘Day Boat’ range.

Baltic Yachts commented that it will be transposing to its motor yacht lines the reputation that its sailing yachts have gathered for high-quality engineering, technology, light displacement, quiet running and true seaworthiness.

The new Motor Yacht range includes the 27-metre Baltic MY88, the 34-metre Baltic MY112 and the 41-metre Baltic MY135; while the new Day Boat range comprises the 15-metre Baltic MY49 and the 17-metre Baltic MY56.

The decision came about, said the yard, due to demand from its sailing-yacht client base wishing to diversify their yacht collections but retain the quality and features that they have grown accustomed to from Baltic Yachts. It was also inspired by the results of a restoration on the 25-metre motor cruiser M/Y Sunny Day for Baltic Yachts’ owner, Professor Hans Georg Näder.

Professor Näder said of the new additions to the company’s offering: “The Baltic Yachts name conveys quality, prestige and performance, and Baltic Motor Yachts extends this experience and reputation into a new area of yachting. The refit of our family motor yacht stimulated me to initiate our own Ligurian styled motor yacht line, using our superb facilities and state-of-the-art technologies for safe, reliable motor cruising with superb quality, as we have done for decades in sailing.”

The motor yachts will be built at the same facilities as the company’s sailing yachts, in Finland’s historic shipbuilding town of Ostrobothnia. Currently there is a full order book for the sailing division, but there is capacity to expand into this new construction area.

Over the last 44 years, Baltic Yachts has made a name for itself building performance, custom carbon-fibre yachts of up to 60 metres. Notable vessels among the Baltic Yachts fleet include S/Y Inukshuk, S/Y Nikata, S/Y My Song and S/Y Nilaya.

More detail on the features that can be expected on the new motor yacht ranges from Baltic Yachts are expected to be revealed in the near future.
