Italian superyacht builder Baglietto has marked its 170th anniversary during a two-day event with around 250 guests. Attendees included national and local authorities, clients, members of the press, and associates of the brand.

The event, hosted by the Gavio group and Baglietto’s management, commemorated the shipyard’s historical significance and offered a glimpse at its future outlook. The evening was hosted by Italian actor Lorena Bianchetti, who honoured Baglietto’s long-standing presence in the Italian yachting sector.

The company’s history is documented in the book, Baglietto: The Art of Yachting Since 1854, written by Antonio Macaluso and published by Rizzoli. This book was presented during the event and will be available in bookstores on 29 October 2024.

During the celebration, Baglietto also introduced a new design concept marking over 30 years of collaboration with designer Francesco Paszkowski.

The design, a fast 70-foot (21.3-metre) open yacht, demonstrates the shipyard’s ongoing evolution in style and technology. The new vessel, named Chato II, pays tribute to Chato, which was built by Baglietto in 1986 and reached a speed of 60 knots.

The event also featured a demonstration of the BZero system, a plant that produces ‘green hydrogen’, which supplied the energy used for the evening.

The Officina Baglietto project was also discussed, alongside the launch of a new competition for young talent, now active on the dedicated pages.

The following day, approximately 500 people, including families of employees and suppliers, attended an open-day event. Attendees were able to explore the immersive exhibition Tales of the Blue, which presents Baglietto’s history through images and interactive elements.

Despite inclement weather, visitors participated in games and could view yachts under construction. The A1 basketball team, Bertram Derthona, also appeared, engaging younger attendees in a basketball game.

“We chose to celebrate this important event in two equally significant parts: the gala evening paid tribute to the local and regional authorities in a more formal occasion, while Saturday’s celebration focused on the people— the women and men who truly represent the heart of Baglietto,” says Diego Michele Deprati, CEO of Baglietto.

“Their daily work and commitment give meaning to this company and ensure its continuity. These individuals, with their hands, experiences, intellect, and know-how, have created innovation, sometimes even revolution, and much beauty. I believe this is Baglietto’s secret.

“It certainly was 170 years ago, and it continues to be today, from that 1854 moment on the coast of Varazze to now, breathing life into this beautiful brand.”

Baglietto specialises in building planing aluminium yachts and semi-displacement steel and aluminium mega-yachts ranging from 35 to 65 metres. The company operates two production sites in La Spezia and Carrara. The La Spezia site covers 35,000 square metres and features facilities for building yachts up to 65 metres, as well as fully-equipped quays for vessels up to 70 metres. The site also houses a 1,200-tonne travel lift, the largest in Europe, used for launching and hauling yachts.

The firm’s Carrara site spans 5,000 square metres and focuses on military craft under the Baglietto Navy brand and certain models of Betram Yachts, which joined the group in 2015.
