Louis XIV famous for his love of excess said that it was “impossible to please all the world.” Now Louis is no longer with us, I can say this without worrying about a date with the guillotine: “Louis, you’re wrong.”
The Sofitel Brisbane can please all the world, well at least 416 guests at once, while lording it up in one of their most elegant rooms or suites.
A waffle weave robe fit for a king is installed in every room. Wrap the soft fabric and journey into your divine marble bathroom to dabble in the luxury of Lanvin toiletries. French style is carried through to the colour palette of charcoal, chocolate and deep plum set off by black and white Parisian images.
Poor Louis XIV was deprived of a pillow menu back in the 1400s but not here. There’s a pillow menu with a choice of seven pillows as well as some sleep amenities on offer such as a mask, ear plugs and a reading selection. Lie back with a book on one of the chaise lounge or recline on “one of the world’s most comfortable beds.”
Wake up to stunning views of the Brisbane skyline, whether that’s the city and Anzac Square, with its lush lawns and boab trees, or leafy Mount Coo-tha.
Located just a block from the heart of the CBD, the Sofitel is set directly above Brisbane’s Central station, so incredibly convenient, especially if arriving by Airtrain from the airport.

Francophiles will lap up the macarons, replica tour Eiffel and French pastries in the coffee shop and the motto Life is Magnifique displayed prominently.
If you want to fit in a bit more of le Francais in your life head to Privé, the French-inspired fine dining restaurant or to the Suzette. The buffet consists of a huge array of dishes including many favourite French-style desserts. Breakfast is served in Suzette and there is also a champagne lounge, a pub and a fabulous high tea served in Cuvée.
Whittle off some of those calories in the gym or a few laps in the 11-metre outdoor heated pool or just lounge back in the Jacuzzi and look out over the city.
Club Millésime is worth paying the upgrade of $95 per person per night. It is one of the largest club lounges in Australia and open seven days per week. Included in your fee is in-room welcome gift on arrival; Complimentary breakfast in Suzette; Evening drinks and canapés (Apéro Chic) served from 5.30 til 7.30 pm;

If Marie Antoinette was alive today, no doubt she’d be found nibbling on a macaron in one of the elegant restaurants while Louis may repeat his famous mantra, “There is nothing impossible to him who will try.”
