Southern Wind has started construction of the new RP-Nauta 100 custom yacht, commissioned by an experienced yachtsman who has placed his trust in the shipyard's new shareholders.

13 August 2018

The yacht’s general design, exterior and interior were developed by Nauta Design in association with Reichel Pugh Yacht Design for Naval Architecture, while Gurit will look after structural engineering. Systems are by Southern Wind Shipyard.

An important addition to the yard’s current order book, this 30-metre high performance-oriented cruiser confirms SWS leading positioning in the construction of 90 to 120-foot performance sailing yachts.

The owner had initiated the design process in 2017 with Nauta Design and soon after with Reichel Pugh Yacht Design. Southern Wind has been selected for its construction among other reputable shipyards. The commission fits with the shipyard’s objectives, style and business plan of occasionally building a custom project to develop new solutions and technologies.

Southern Wind Shipyard’s new management and shareholders expressed their satisfaction with this new commission: ”We are proud to be carrying on building reliable, comfortable and fast yachts and are happy to bring our renewed energy to the solid basis that Southern Wind is built on,” says Andrea Micheli, SWS Sales Director.

Marco Alberti, SWS General Manager, welcomed this new challenge with enthusiasm and had these worlds: “This yacht will benefit from the experience gained in the last years with the construction of two new series of high performance cruisers, the SW105 and SW96, and from technological innovations mastered building the SW-RP90 custom project.”

“The Owner is particularly keen on three aspects of the project”, says Mario Pedol from Nauta Design.

“Functionality for safe and comfortable navigation, high performances to enjoy racing in the most renowned superyacht regattas,  and sexy, appealing design to give the yacht a modern, aggressive and sporty look.”

“The Reichel Pugh team is very pleased to be collaborating once more with Nauta Design and Southern Wind Shipyard on this exciting project. The build of the RP90, the first custom yacht for SWS with interior styling by Nauta Yachts, was an overwhelming success. For this RP-Nauta 100, the Owner is drawing on the expertise of these renowned companies to design and build a yacht that fully realises his vision”, adds Jim Pugh, President at Reichel Pugh Yacht Design

The new SWS custom 100 yacht will be a very powerful 63 tons full carbon racer cruiser with a lifting keel (max draft 6,10m.) A sleek and elegant flush deck will be combined with a large sail area for performance.

The yacht is already under construction at Southern Wind Shipyard and is scheduled for delivery in Spring 2020.
