As dawn readies to break on a new chapter for Raes on Wategos, the renowned coastal hideaway unveils its highly anticipated addition: Raes Guesthouses.

This fresh retreat nestles just steps from the original Raes hotel, inviting guests into an experience both familiar and novel. Raes Guesthouses build upon the legacy of Raes’ warmth and intimate luxury, celebrating the property’s 30th anniversary with an offering that brings together a refined sense of space, privacy, and the signature hospitality that has made Raes an icon of boutique travel in Australia.

Comprising two adjacent buildings, the Guesthouses feature ten spacious suites, each meticulously designed to reflect the coastal charm and relaxed elegance synonymous with Raes.

King-sized beds, custom-designed with attention to detail, are framed by sweeping views—some stretching out to the tranquil expanse of Wategos Beach, others capturing the lush calm of the garden surrounds.

Under the vision of renowned interior designer Tamsin Johnson, the property’s Mediterranean aesthetic shines through in a palette of soothing earthen tones, hand-painted joinery, and organically moulded plasterwork.

Strong materials like marble bring continuity between the original hotel and this new addition, while vintage glazed tiles, linen, and cane enhance the easy elegance of Byron Bay’s coastal landscape.

Encased in tropical gardens, Raes Guesthouses also feature two lap pools, designed to provide a tranquil escape no matter the season. On the western side, a 16-metre pool is framed by a waterfall, while the eastern pool, solar-heated for comfort, spans 12 metres and includes a cabana with ample lounge space.

Elevating the Raes’ experience, Executive Chef Jason Saxby offers a new culinary journey across the property, from in-room dining to the communal dining area and poolside.
