Known as the cruising capital of Australia, the Whitsunday islands have for six years played host to the Alexander Marine Rendezvous, which brings together a diverse bunch of yachting enthusiasts – including Alexander Marine customers – to share their passion for boating. This year’s event, which took place in October, attracted more than 100 guests from all over the country.

The event was started by Todd Holzapfel, Director and Dealer Principal of Alexander Marine Australia, and was conceived as a small get-together, but has quickly grown into a must-do. This year, the fleet included a range of power boats from monohulls and cats to a 33-metre superyacht, dotted through the anchorage at Cid Harbour.

Three host vessels rafted up to create the 2022 event platform. Back by popular demand was the Rock Bottom band who set up on the spacious boat deck of the Ocean Alexander 78 LV Three. Alongside her at the centre of the raft-up was the expedition charter vessel Seagara, from which food and beverages flowed until well into the night and on which the top deck proved to be the perfect dance floor.

The third yacht in the raft was the Ocean Alexander 28 Explorer, catering to those guests looking for a more sedate way to enjoy the day thanks to the 28’s multiple indoor and outdoor entertaining areas.

The popularity of the event was underlined by the fact that many guests have been attending every year since the first edition back in 2016, with many claiming it to be the best party of the year.

“What we love most about our annual Whitsundays Get-Together is it appeals to people with a wide variety of interests – whether it be sailing, surfing, diving, fishing or just enjoying the tropical climate and scenery,” commented Todd Holzapfel. “But the one thing they have in common is their love for their boats.”

“Add to that we welcome new friends into our circle every year, which is rewarding for myself and my team.”

The theme for this year’s event was the AMA American Diner. Guests were taken back in time as waiters and waitresses donned traditional red and white pinstriped uniforms. Traditional and classic American diner dishes – such as sliders, mini hot dogs and fries – were on offer, while a talented bar team created cocktails well into the night (with guests contributing their own inspired recipes!).

Against the glorious backdrop of the Whitsundays, it made for another excellent rendezvous – and all who attended are already looking forward to the 2023 edition.
