Hard Rock Hotels and Resorts plans to open a 700-foot guitar-shaped hotel on the Las Vegas strip, taking the place of The Mirage Hotel & Casino.

The landmark Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas will close 17 July for a multi-year development project that will include a new Hard Rock Hotel resort that features a nearly 700-foot guitar-shaped hotel.
Once complete, the resort is expected to have 600 hotel rooms, 48,000 square feet of gaming area and 96,000 square feet of retail and restaurants at ground level.
In January 2023, Hard Rock International (HRI) received regulatory approval from the Nevada Gaming Commission for its acquisition of The Mirage Hotel & Casino from MGM Resorts International, for which it then paid over US$1 billion in cash.
The iconic Mirage, located in the middle of ‘the Strip’, was the world’s most expensive resort when it opened in 1989, at a cost of US$630 million, and its construction spurred a building boom throughout the 90s.
The Mirage is famous for its streetfront Volcano, which fires on the hour from 8 pm to 11 pm, as well as the Siegfried and Roy Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat.

In 1990, the Mirage debuted a magic show by Siegfried & Roy, who performed there for nearly 14 years.
From 1996, their menagerie of big cats, which included Bengal tigers, white tigers, white lions and a snow leopard, was housed in an outdoor attraction known as Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat.
After 30 years, the attraction has closed and the remaining animals have been moved to other wildlife properties.
The final performance of the Cirque du Soleil show, Love – the re-imagined musical works of The Beatles which has been on stage at The Mirage since 2006 – will be presented 7 July.
The property will reopen in 2027 as the Hard Rock Las Vegas.
