Founded in 1998 to develop, represent and promote Australia’s marine export, superyacht and commercial industries in the wider world, the Australian International Marine Export Group has long stood as a standard-bearer for the excellence of the Australian marine sector. At the heart of AIMEX’s 25-year drive has been Founding Director Richard Chapman, who has been recognised for his work in the 2023 Australia Day Honours list.
The highly distinguished Order of Australia Medal (OAM) award recognises and celebrates Chapman’s important contribution to the Australian marine industry – and by extension, to the promotion of Australian talent overseas – both as Director and two-time President of AIMEX and for his 45-year career in the Australian marine sector.
During his time with AIMEX, Chapman has spent many years directly promoting Australian marine exports through participation at large international marine trade shows, assisting and mentoring other marine businesses establish their footing particularly in overseas markets.
Chapman’s career includes more than four decades with Coursemaster Autopilots and HyDrive Engineering. He is a member of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, where he sails regularly – he served on the Squadron’s General Committee for 22 years and was Commodore from 2014 to 2018.
“This award is a well-deserved recognition of Richard’s outstanding contributions to the Australian marine industry,” says David Good, AIMEX CEO.
“He has spent his own time and money to assist others within our marine industry and helped create an Australian reputation within the international market of reliability, honesty and can-do attitude that will benefit all Australian marine manufacturers in decades to come. Congratulations Richard on this outstanding achievement.”
