The first superyacht marina and leisure precinct to be built under The Spit Master Plan, featuring a 67-berth superyacht marina for vessels up to 60 metres, Mantaray Marina & Residences is positioned as a “world-class on-water experience”.

Gordon Corp was awarded the State Government tender to acquire and develop the 9,858-square-metre greenfield site on Sea World Drive, and Founder and Managing Director of Gordon Corp, Tim Gordon, speaks with Ocean about his vision for this high-end development and its progress.

Ocean magazine: Where does Gordon Corp operate?

Tim Gordon: Gordon Corp has been headquartered on the Gold Coast for more than 30 years. In that time, we’ve delivered numerous residential, retail and mixed-use properties across Australia.

What projects are you involved in currently?

In the past year, we’ve completed and sold a number of residential and retail projects and industrial land subdivisions nationally.

Our current flagship project is Mantaray Marina & Residences, located on the Gold Coast’s northern peninsula, The Spit.

This world-class leisure precinct is the first project to be delivered under The Spit Master Plan and will deliver ultra-luxury residences, 20 dedicated superyacht berths with an exclusive on-water, members-only lounge, and high-end retail and dining.

How is Mantaray progressing?

Both the superyacht marina and the private residences are drawing interest from across Australia and internationally.

Mantaray Residences is a collection of 24 three- and four-bedroom ultra-luxury homes, oriented to take advantage of sweeping views across the Broadwater and east to the Pacific Ocean.

The penthouses span more than 1,100 square metres and feature four large bedrooms, expansive living and entertaining spaces, a private lift as well as a private landscaped rooftop terrace with a pool, barbecue, cabanas and entertaining areas.

The development has achieved a number of sales ahead of the formal launch. Construction is scheduled to commence in Quarter 2, 2023.

What are some of the component parts?

The Mantaray Club is the centrepiece of the Superyacht Precinct, providing an unrivalled marina and on-water clubhouse experience.

Encapsulating the very finest of old-world service combined with new-world luxury, the club is a place for residents and members to enjoy fine-dining experiences in the restaurant, relax on the sundeck, or entertain guests in the private dining and meeting rooms.

What can the yachting community expect from the marina?

The Mantaray Superyacht Precinct presents an unparalleled experience from the moment you step ashore.

Designed to Platinum Gold Anchor standard, the precinct offers 67 berths, ranging from 12 metres to 60 metres, and provides year-round, deep-water access and immediate ocean passage through the Gold Coast Seaway.

The marina also provides access to world-class marina operations, end-to-end concierge services, and a private on-water lounge experience found nowhere else in the world.

Has Gordon Corp developed marinas previously?

Gordon Corp has delivered numerous mixed-use and residential developments throughout our 30-year history, and we’ve engaged leading consultants to advise on the superyacht marina’s design and delivery.

What are the defining attributes of the Broadwater and the Gold Coast that make this project so special?

There’s no place in the world that compares to The Spit. Bounded by the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Broadwater on the other, it’s a place where vast stretches of beach and coastal habitat coexist with luxurious hotels, retail precincts, fine dining and theme-park attractions.

Beyond this, the Gold Coast is home to some of the world’s best surf beaches, deep-water passages and island escapes. It’s a marine playground that’s bathed in sunshine for 300 days of the year.

What benefits will the project bring to the region?

The Queensland Government’s new vision for the peninsula, established through The Spit Master Plan, creates a level of surety about its future and has been a catalyst for major new investment.

Mantaray Marina & Residences will deliver the first new superyacht marina facility to The Spit in decades, attracting national and international visitors to the Gold Coast.

It will also provide a strong link between the Broadwater and the Pacific Ocean through an activated retail plaza, residential apartments and a public boardwalk.

There are other superyacht marinas nearby, including Versace, Marine Mirage, and Mariner’s Cove. How does Mantaray differ from and complement these existing properties?

Mantaray Marina & Residences complements both the existing and planned marina infrastructure on the Broadwater while introducing its own distinctive experience.

Of the 67 berths, 20 range in size from 25 metres to 60 metres, and lessees will have access to international-standard marina operations and exclusive members-only access to the private on-water lounge. Encompassing two levels, the floating lounge provides private bar and dining experiences found nowhere else in the world.

Membership also provides access to a full-service concierge equipped to facilitate provisions and storage, repairs and maintenance, sewer pump-out services, charter services, transportation, and onboard staff and personnel.

The concierge service can also assist with recycling, deliveries, events, catering, entertainment and other services, such as trip pack provisioning and special needs services.
