The public has more access to beautiful Sydney Harbour with the opening of a new commercial marina for Sydney’s charter vessel fleet.

Transport for NSW A/ Executive Director Maritime Alex Barrell said the new 22-berth commercial marina at Pyrmont was built to replace the previous marina at Blackwattle Bay, which was reaching the end of its useful life.

“The new Blackwattle Bay Marina has been purpose-built to cater for charter boats ranging in size from 8–40 metres in length, with power and water to each berth and a new sewage pump-out facility,” Mr Barrell said.

“The people of Sydney now have additional world-class access to Sydney Harbour. The location offers a boardwalk to give the public access to the waterway, which will form part of the Bay walk.

“The site of the previous facility will now be used for the Sydney Fish Markets redevelopment, which is under way.

“The opening of this new marina is right on time for the start of the peak charter vessel season from November to February.”

Mr Barrell said it was important to note that the pump-out facility and marina access will be subject to strict operating conditions due to the residential neighbourhood nearby, limiting operating horus to between 7 am and 1 am.

Transport for NSW started work on the $8.6 million marina in November last year. It includes a secure compound with a demountable office building, storage for up to twenty shipping containers, a waste area, and parking for five cars.
