Get set for The Honours

Inspiring people who are inspiring change

The Honours – sponsored by Feadship, BWA Yachting, RINA, and Preciosa – is a new event to the yachting calendar which seeks to highlight and recognise the extraordinary people doing the extraordinary things that make the superyachting good life so good.

As well as honouring these inspiring individuals, The Honours also parallels The Superyacht Foundation’s goals of presenting the positive stories and actions of the people and the industry to a wider audience in order to reinforce more positive perceptions of superyachting – something that the Monaco Yacht Show, as the centrepiece of the annual superyachting calendar, can help amplify alongside its own drive to promote industry initiatives.

Over the years, The Superyacht Life Foundation has spoken with some truly inspirational people in all aspects of superyachting, from superyacht owners, builders and designers to scientists, engineers and crew members. It has shared their stories, and now it wants to lead the community in sharing our collective thanks.

From owners, crews and industry people who are leading humanitarian and disaster relief efforts, citizen scientists using their superyachts to further our understanding of the oceans and the climate, or business leaders preserving fine artisan skills, to pioneering designers and engineers who are at the vanguard of technological development of sustainable innovations that have impacts far beyond the industry itself, superyachting has many hidden depths.

The Honours recognises the inspirational but rarely told stories that make the superyacht world exceptional.

“Our industry is a people’s industry, and there are so many stories to be told about the amazing achievements of engineering, design, philanthropic ventures and sustainable innovations,” says Farouk Nefzi, Chief Marketing Officer at Feadship.

“They all make our industry and the world a little better. We have chosen to support The Honours because of the inspiring people, captivating stories, and great content.”

“Behind every industry, there are people who work very hard to advance it year in, year out, and is very important that we all recognise and appreciate the source behind any success,” adds Paschalis Patsiokas, BWA Yachting’s Chief Executive Officer.

“Being a service company in the superyacht industry, BWA Yachting knows well the importance of people and by supporting The Honours we would like to encourage everyone to celebrate them more.”

The Bowsprit

The breakfast was also a chance for everyone to see the Bowsprit award for the first time.

Beautifully crafted by Preciosa, the Bowsprit is an exquisite, avant-garde design in carbon and crystal glass that symbolises the people celebrates – those at the cutting edge, charting a new course and gathering momentum behind them as the waves of their actions propagate and spread.

Each year, three honourees will be selected by a panel of judges to receive a Bowsprit, presented to them during an exclusive experiential evening that will open the Monaco Yacht Show.

The inaugural Honours evening will take place on the eve of the Monaco Yacht Show 2023.

“As a designer of crystal lighting masterpieces that bring emotion to places and people, we are thrilled to help recognize inspiring people who bring joy and spirit to the superyacht industry,” says Jan Volšík MBA, Member of the Board of Preciosa Lighting.

“We are honoured that our artisans from Crystal Valley, Czech Republic produced this magnificent trophy for The Honours, which we hope will connect the industry through achievement, innovation, and passion.”

Nominations

Do you know someone deserving of a Superyacht Life Honour? Nominees can be anyone from a scientist doing groundbreaking research on board a superyacht to a deckhand who goes above and beyond; a yacht owner who has used their yacht for good causes, or a submarine pilot who has helped guests achieve their dreams and fight their fears.

Anything goes, as long as it demonstrates the exceptional world of superyachting. Nominations should be made by visiting the Nominate page The Honours website.

Nominees should have achieved something that has had a tangible link to the superyacht industry within the past five years, and whose influence includes, for example, contribution to diversity and inclusion, sustainability, new technologies, scientific research, philanthropic ventures and so on.

Nominees will be considered by an independent judging panel comprising leaders from all sectors of the superyacht industry, who will select three laureates each year to receive a Bowsprit.
