With just a few weeks to go until its first-ever race, the UIM E1 World Championship is forging new frontiers with the exciting announcement of Team Brazil.

Founded by technology entrepreneur Marcelo Claure, Team Brazil will be on the start line on 2 and 3 February 2024 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for the first-ever E1 race.

Alongside Team Brazil will be teams owned by some of the world’s biggest celebrity names, among them Tom Brady, Rafael Nadal, Marc Anthony, Steve Aoki, Sergio Perez, Didier Drogba, and Virat Kohli.

Marcelo is a globally recognised entrepreneur and investor with a proven track record of creating #1 businesses and teams. E1 Team Brazil is Claure Group’s first racing venture, combining Marcelo’s affinity and passion for Latin America with his love of competitive sports.

Up to 10 teams will compete in the inaugural UIM E1 World Championship season, each battling it out to secure the coveted E1 title of Champions of the Water.

Each team will choose two pilots to share driving duties throughout the event, with regulations mandating each team to select a mixed-gender pilot line-up to ensure equal opportunities in the sport.

After the debut in the Middle East, the championship schedule includes races in Venice, Italy on 11 and 12 May, Puerto Banús in Southern Spain on 1 and 2 June, Geneva, Switzerland on 29 and 30 June, Monaco on 26 and 27 July, Rotterdam, Netherlands on 7 and 8 September, and the decisive race in Hong Kong on 9 and 10 November.

E1’s drive to make marine mobility more sustainable aligns with Marcelo’s own values, as he, along with his partners at eB Capital including Eduardo Melzer, are launching the largest climate fund in Brazil, focused on investing in sustainable solutions for a greener future.

eB Capital is a Brazil-focused investment platform specializing in private equity, infrastructure, real estate, and climate. Claure is also Founder & CEO of Claure Group, a multi-billion-dollar global investment firm spanning multiple high-growth sectors such as telecom, technology, media, real estate, infrastructure, climate and energy transition, fashion, and sports.

He also serves as the Group Vice Chairman of Shein, the on-demand, global and online fashion and lifestyle platform, and is the Executive Chairman of Bicycle Capital, a leading growth equity fund focused on Latin America. “I’m excited to be part of this revolution in the world of powersports,” said Marcelo Claure.

“E1 represents a move toward a more sustainable and innovative future, with greater commitment to environmental responsibility.

“I look forward to combining the passion Brazilians have for sports and the extensive reach of the E1 platform to catalyse the E1 mission to advance marine sustainability as well as to contribute to Brazil’s continued leadership in global sustainability discussions. I’m excited to have Team Brazil in this competition with our talented team of drivers.”

Rodi Basso, CEO and co-founder of E1 said: “One of the most in-demand properties in sport at the moment is a place on the E1 start line, and we are delighted to see Marcelo and Team Brazil claim one of those spots for 2024.

“It’s also a milestone for the championship as we enter South America for the first time, and progresses our desire for E1 to be a truly global series.”

Alejandro Agag, Chairman and co-founder of E1, said: “The team couldn’t be in a safer pair of hands than Marcelo’s, bringing his drive to succeed and extensive international business experience to E1. I look forward to seeing the unique and exciting flair Team Brazil will bring to E1 in 2024.”
