Reincarnated by the rebooted brand now based in Humble, Texas, the new model DeLorean was penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro’s Italdesign, the same firm that designed the DMC-12 in the 1970s. The goal was to preserve the DeLorean heritage and signature, while making an ultra-modern vehicle that captures DeLorean’s mission to represent the future.

With a 100 kWh battery pack, the all-electric model delivers an estimated zero to 60 mph (97 kilometres per hour) in a time of 2.99 seconds, an estimated range of 300 miles (483 kilometres) or more and an estimated top speed of 155 mph (250 kilometres per hour).

“We have been given the opportunity to re-imagine a brand that has meant so much to people from all corners of the globe for four decades,” said Neilo Harris, Vice President Brand and Creative.

“DeLorean has touched so many lives and set the stage for so many memories. We are all now witnessing a new chapter of this amazing story.”

“There was this enormous resposibility to make sure we honoured the history of the brand, but an even greater responsibility in curating its future.

“I think we did both with the Alpha5,” stated Troy Beetz, Chief Marketing Officer.

“The Alpha5 is for people who love to drive,” added Joost de Vries, Chief Executive Officer.

Priced at around US$175,000, the DeLorean Alpha5 will make its debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August.
