“We all understand the imperative to safeguard our oceans for future generations, and I continue to fervently advocate for it.”

Does anyone else feel like they’re caught in a time warp? This year seems to be hurtling forward at an astonishing pace! I’ve already clocked countless air miles and participated in a myriad of significant events – and the second half of this year is looking even more hectic with trips to Cannes, Monaco and, of course, Barcelona for the 37th America’s Cup. I’m trying to hold back my excitement.

As May unfolds, I’m also eagerly anticipating the return of the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS), one of my favourite fixtures in the boating industry calendar. This year will mark Ocean Media’s 19th year attending SCIBS – a significant milestone, for sure, as we start planning our 20th-anniversary celebrations next year.

First, however, is the one-day ASMEX conference before Sanctuary Cove, which promises a wealth of fascinating discussions and the opportunity to reconnect with esteemed colleagues. I, for one, am looking forward to engaging with industry stalwarts like Theo Hooning from SYBAss and Petros Michelidakis, Director of the Düsseldorf International Boat Show, as we unravel the latest trends and developments shaping European boating associations.

Naturally, the pressing issues of sustainability and environmental stewardship will also be firmly at the forefront of our discussions. With decades of experience under our belts, as an industry we understand all too well the imperative to safeguard our oceans for future generations. Here at Ocean Media, we’ve championed this cause for years, and I will continue to advocate for it fervently.

This edition, our front cover star is Riviera’s latest masterpiece, the 58 Sports Motor Yacht. A testament to the brand’s meticulous craftsmanship and collaborative innovation, Riviera continues to set the benchmark for excellence in boatbuilding.

Other reviews include the 80 Sunreef Power Eco, which exemplifies the commitment of both the brand and the owner to prioritise environmental consciousness in the boating experience. And, as always, the new wallywhy150 stands out for its unique design and exceptional features that must be experienced firsthand to be truly appreciated.

Finally, in Spotlight, our multifaceted multihull feature delves into the significant changes that are happening in this dynamic sector of the market, providing valuable insights for enthusiasts and industry professionals alike.

In Ocean Keepers, we’re reminded of the profound impact our industry can have on the world. Having met the young Ghanaian leaders from ECOP Africa at boot earlier in the year, this article serves as a reminder of both the challenges we face and the resilience of the human spirit. The tireless efforts of these conservation champions to combat illegal fishing and preserve our oceans for future generations are a beacon of hope.

Our contributing editor Jeni Bone recently visited the Horizon Yachts yard in Taiwan for its Open House event and was fortunate to meet with yacht designer Cor D. Rover – check out Design for Jeni’s conversation with him about his many years of designing some of the most iconic superyachts and a range of Horizon motor yachts, plus other interesting insights.

Meanwhile, earlier in the year, our editor at large Charlotte Thomas visited Budapest, Hungary, for the Benetti Yachtmasters conference. Benetti’s update was multifold and themed toward improving the owner’s experience on board and the captain’s role in achieving this. Benetti ensures the owner’s journey from design to after delivery is seamless, and it sounds like much fun was had.

Read these and many more fabulous editorial features in this issue of Ocean. If you’re heading to the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, swing by our stand and say hello – we’re positioned on the water, on the H/I arm, next to Riviera. I look forward to seeing you there.
