Italian sailing yacht builder Ice Yachts is introducing two models as world premieres at the upcoming 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival, running 12 to 17 September 2023.
Both models, the Ice 70 Grand Comfort and the newly launched Ice 52 RS Anniversary, are the result of collaboration with the Felci Yacht Design studio, together with the yard’s technical office.
Ice says both projects are characterised by a sense of quality and comfort that distinguishes all Ice hulls.
Ice Yachts is already well-established for manufacturing the largest sailing catamarans built in Italy. The shipyard, which is based in Salvirola in the former CN Yacht 2000 facilities, is helmed by chief executive Marco Malgara.
The Ice team says the Ice 70 Grand Comfort is a technologically advanced boat with comfortable interior and exterior space that is easy to manage without sacrificing performance and safety.
The maxi dodger and the double bimini shade combine an elegant design with functionality to protect the helmsman and guest cockpit. At the stern, Ice has chosen to extend the seats towards the middle of the boat, thereby offering two chaise lounges and allowing more storage space.
The furnishings are characterised by natural teak, while the inserts that cover the vertical walls and create a continuum throughout the living spaces are made of natural leather.
The skipper’s cabin and galley are located aft and completely self-contained to ensure privacy for the owner and their guests. The forward area is dedicated to the master cabin, which is spacious and elegant, with a master bathroom complete with a shower and sauna, all lined in teak.
The guest cabin comes complete with a double bed and a dedicated bathroom.
The Ice 52 RS Anniversary is the seventeenth example of the Ice 52. It is a member of the RS series, which is said to include the yard’s lightest, sportiest and best-performing yachts.
The metallic grey colouring, reminiscent of a sports car livery, fits with the elegant and aggressive lines of the Felci Yacht Design hull, highlighted by the absence of an opening. The 3.5 mm synthetic teak supplied by Plasdeck cladding contrasts with the deckhouse, which is painted white.
Ice says the innovations presented on the Ice 52 RS Anniversary promise a significant increase in performance.
The new keel configuration is the result of the design by the Felci studio, which has developed new lines for both the fin and the numerically controlled milled bulb, bringing the overall depth to 3.2m.
The new mast is made of high-modulus carbon fibre and is designed for a square-top mainsail, with double backstays, carbon shrouds, and adjustable steering wheels from dedicated winches.
The interior layout has been modified for family use on this vessel, with two large three-person aft cabins served by a bathroom and the owner’s cabin in the bow with an attached bathroom.
All the interior spaces are embellished by the use of real teak, as requested by the owners, and by the visible carbon fibre details, which echo the ‘modern classic’ style that has now become a signature of the Ice and Felci partnership.
The systems were adapted to the standards required by the Caribbean climate of the Cayman Islands, the destination of the new Ice 52 RS.
