Raising a collective glass at the 2016 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show to toast its 30 years in business, including founder Tony Fleming (pictured above) signing copies of his memoir, “Riding the Tide”, Fleming Yachts has a host of plans and innovations to look forward as it enters a new phase in its evolution. Here, Sam Nicholas of Fleming Yachts Australia fills us in on just a few of them.

How did Fleming commemorate 2016 and the 30 years since hull 001 was launched?
Fleming Yachts’ 30
th anniversary was celebrated with a special event at the Fort Lauderdale boat show in November 2016.  All Fleming owners, dealers and agents were invited and we expect around 200 people attended. It was a great evening with entertainment, live music, good food and drink and above all, good company!

What is the plan for 2017 launch of the new Fleming 78 “Classic”?
The first Fleming 78 “Classic” has just successfully completed sea trials in Taiwan and will be officially launched in the Spring of 2017 in the US.

What can we expect from the new model?
The Fleming 78 Classic has a completely re-designed low-profile flybridge making its appearance far more similar to the Fleming 65. The new flybridge layout offers more entertaining areas, including a fridge, icemaker, freezer, barbeque and sink.

A fully hydraulic davit mounted at the aft end of the longer boat deck allows the tender to be launched over either side of the yacht. The California deck aft of the main saloon has also been extended to provide more exterior seating, and includes custom cabinets at the aft end to house a pair of composite folding electric bicycles.

How is Fleming promoting its brand and the 78 Classic in 2017?
Fleming Yachts will continue to promote our yachts at numerous boat shows worldwide, as well as online, social media and via quality marine publications.

What are the hallmarks of Fleming motor yachts that set them apart from other marques?
The hallmarks setting Fleming Yachts apart from other brands start with the original design, a low profile, seaworthy, safe, and very pretty boat. Coupled with superb engineering, quality components, and sensible systems design with lots of redundancy.

One has to appreciate that all Flemings are built to a standard and not to a price. Tony Fleming got it right in 1985 with the original Fleming 55 and we continue to build the F55 today which is a testament to his design.

What will you have on display at Sanctuary Cove and the Sydney International Boat Show in 2017?
We intend to display a Fleming 55 at Sanctuary Cove show and the new Fleming 58, as well as a Fleming 55 in Sydney.

What other innovations and advances can we anticipate in the next year or so?
We work continuously on product improvements, and testing new components as well as listening closely to our existing customers whose suggestions are a valuable part of the evolution.

We are currently seeing increased demand for joystick operation of engines and thrusters with “position hold” systems, digital switching and electronic monitoring, “fly by wire” electronic steering is standard on most of our yachts already and we never stop looking at new technology which could be of benefit either in the finished product or in the production methods. It’s fair to say that Fleming Yachts is and has been at the forefront of this development.
