Dutch superyacht builder Moonen Yachts enjoyed an early Christmas celebration with the launch and christening of Cocoon, a 37.8-metre Moonen Martinique, and is now ringing in the new year with Cocoon‘s sea trials. The owners had joined the build team and the yacht’s new crew on a crisp Dutch winter morning at the Moonen shipyard in Den Bosch to see their new creation hit the water, and will now be eagerly anticipating her delivery, which is scheduled for early 2023.
The christening of Cocoon was the opportunity for the owners to inspect the yacht just before completion and delivery. With construction progressing precisely according to plan, the result clearly made an impact as the owner remarked, “The yacht is above my expectations!”
Cocoon began life as the fourth hull built on the award-winning Moonen Martinique semi-custom platform, but following her sale in early 2022 the owners specified several major changes, including adding a 1.5-metre extension to the swim platform that has brought her total length to 37.8 metres. In addition to specifying the remarkable anthracite exterior paint scheme, the owners brought in the design team at Andreas Martin-Löf Arkitekter to create custom Scandinavian interiors.
The yacht also features a fully integrated hydraulic Z-lift swim platform at the owners’ request, and an extended sun deck that offers a total of 65-square-metres.
It marks a bright start to 2023 for the shipyard, which is Australian owned. It also demonstrates the quality of build and flexibility of design that Moonen Yachts offers owners, with the opportunity to customise their yacht beyond merely selecting personal interior styles.
“Cocoon has been a special project for all of us at Moonen Yachts,” says Commercial Director Victor Caminada.
“It’s so rewarding for us as yacht builders to welcome the owners here and witness their enthusiasm for their yacht.”
“In their reaction, we could see that everyone involved in the project has got her absolutely spot on,” he adds.
“In fact,” he continues, “she’s even better than the owners imagined. Achieving that level of quality while sticking exactly to schedule is a great testament to everybody involved in the project.”
