PT Marina Development Indonesia (MDI) and Pelindo have signed a contract to develop Indonesia’s first international-standard, full-service yacht marina.

The marina, located in the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub (BMTH) in Benoa, will accommodate 180 wet berths, including spaces for over 50 superyachts up to 90 metres in length. It will include a modern yacht service area with a travel lift capable of handling up to 200 tons and a high-quality fueling station.

“Indonesia deserves a first-class marina that reflects its status as the new yachting paradise of the world,” says Ulf Backlund, president director of Marina Development Indonesia.

“Indonesia’s location, outside of hurricane and typhoon paths, combined with its 17,000 islands, diverse cultures, and year-round favourable weather, makes it an ideal yachting destination. This marina will attract global enthusiasts and provide a base for exploring Indonesia’s natural beauty.”

MDI is collaborating with SF Marina, a Swedish marina developer with extensive experience in floating breakwaters and concrete pontoons. SF Marina will construct the new marina using locally produced pontoons in Benoa. Plus Marine from Italy is supplying state-of-the-art electricity and water pedestals with a SmartCloud remote metering system. These systems provide efficient control, charging, and management for yacht owners.

In addition to technical services, Discover Luxury Indonesia will offer a range of bespoke services, including logistical support and on- and off-boat experiences. The marina will provide various amenities, including a yacht club, luxury hospitality options, entertainment areas and retail and dining outlets.

The development is aimed at enhancing Indonesia’s maritime infrastructure and positioning the country as a premier destination for global yachting.

“The new marina in Bali represents our vision to position Indonesia as a key player in the global maritime industry, combining luxury services with world-class infrastructure,” says Arif Suhartono, president director of Pelindo.

Joko Noerhudha, president director of Pelindo Solusi Logistik, adds, “The marina will attract international and domestic yacht owners, contributing to the growth of Indonesia’s tourism and economy.”

Construction is underway, with the marina scheduled to open its first dock in July 2025 and full capacity expected by mid-2026. A temporary buoy mooring system is already available for 30 yachts up to 17 metres.

“Meeting with project leaders we were excited to learn it is official and we will have a large world-class marina in Bali”, reports Asia Pacific Superyachts Indonesia manager, Captain Thomas Taatjes, serving superyachts in traversing the complexities of staying and cruising in Indonesian waters.
