The Andoo Team Australia youth crew have smashed out a convincing win today in race 7 of 8, to secure their spot in the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup semi-final 24 September in Barcelona.
The Andoo Australia youth squad, led by Skipper Cole Tapper, with co-helm Jack Ferguson and trimmers Max Paul and Tom Needham relished the return of winds in Barcelona to show their talent in the Group B field of 6 invited nations. Only the top three go through to the semi-final with Artemis Racing Sweden and Barcelona Spain securing the other two spots.
Andoo Team Australia stayed true to form, with a near perfect start in race seven of their series. The Aussies led from start to finish, executing the race cleanly and extending their lead on every leg.
Race eight saw Andoo Team Australia starting at the “boat” end of the start line for the first time, next to Group B leader Artemis Swedish Racing.
The Australians led most of the way up the first leg, before meeting traffic towards the top of the course and finding themselves at the back of the fleet. Despite fighting to get back into the race, Andoo Team Australia minimised risks, given their place in the finals was secured.
The Group A nations attached to the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup team also raced today with Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Italy, Athena Pathway Great Britain and NYYC American Magic USA securing the semi-final spots.
Racing 24 September will be a fleet race field of those six finals nations with the top two from the semi going into a final winner takes all Match Race for the trophy on 26 September. Tune in as we head into the penultimate test against the teams with boats.
Racing is being broadcast on Fox Sports and Kayo Freebies in Australia.
