Italian shipyard Rossinavi has revealed Solsea, a hybrid-electric catamaran superyacht developed in collaboration with designer Yves Béhar — founder and CEO of Fuseproject — during Miami’s cultural and design week, Design Miami.

The vessel combines advanced technology with sustainable touches, aiming for silent, eco-conscious ocean exploration.

The Solsea concept has been under development for three years, and Rossinavi says it is designed for owners interested in long-distance crossings, ocean sports and environmentally responsible luxury. The catamaran can operate entirely on electric power for daily trips, while it achieves 90 percent electric operation during multi-day journeys and 80 percent during transatlantic crossings.

The vessel recharges completely from shore power in five hours, and when moored, it minimises consumption through a hibernation mode. Solar panels integrated into its design supply energy back to the quay or private properties.

The Rossinavi AI system onboard enhances sustainable cruising by continuously monitoring operations, learning user preferences, and maintaining battery efficiency between 20 and 80 percent to extend its lifespan. It also provides guidance to crew members, ensuring operational efficiency while supporting low-impact practices.

“It’s been an incredible journey to see how Yves Béhar reimagined the naval platform of our hybrid-electric catamaran,” says Federico Rossi, chief operating officer at Rossinavi.

“His fresh, external perspective brought a style that is both luxurious and refined. This collaboration began shortly after we developed the Seawolf X concept three years ago and marks an exciting new chapter for us.

“Now, following the success of the first catamaran equipped with artificial intelligence, we’re thrilled to unveil Solsea, a fresh reinterpretation of this cutting-edge naval technology.”

The catamaran design integrates sustainability into its core. Béhar’s aesthetic approach blends natural materials, such as cork flooring and ocean plastic, with soft geometries and neutral tones. Solar panels are seamlessly incorporated into shading structures, enhancing renewable energy usage.
According to Béhar: “For me, Solsea is a return to simpler, more respectful ways to enjoy the oceans while integrating the future of efficient propulsion and cutting-edge technologies.”

Solsea features an eco-displacement hull that reduces emissions, noise, and vibrations, improving hydrodynamic efficiency. Its hydraulic rear platform serves as a watersports area when open, maintaining a clean design when closed. The owner’s cabin spans 70 square metres and includes a 180-degree view, private balcony access, and a connection through the bow. The sundeck includes an elevated bar and lounge area with an opening skylight, offering a private yet connected space.

Rossinavi’s “Blue” philosophy underpins Solsea, focusing on sustainability and energy efficiency. Inspired by phytoplankton, “Blue” vessels integrate solar and battery technologies to minimise emissions and operate extensively on electric power during crossings.

Solsea measures 43 metres in length, with a breadth of 14 metres and a mean draft of 1.85 metres. Its construction employs full-aluminium materials, and the vessel adheres to a gross tonnage of less than 500.
