The March edition of the Taiwan International Boat Show (TIBS) was postponed due to the on-going COVID-19 situation.

Held every two years, TIBS 2022 was scheduled to run in Kaohsiung March 10 to 13, and efforts to arrange new dates have run into difficulties. The next TIBS might not be until 2024.

In a statement, show organisers said: “2022 Taiwan International Boat Show and TIBS Online Show have been postponed.

“The organisers have decided to postpone the 2022 Taiwan International Boat Show and TIBS Online, initially scheduled for March 2022. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will provide updates when they’re available.”

An update has been supplied to Ocean by Ms Evonne Lee, the Show Manager. “Originally one organiser proposed having the show in August or September, using a new marina. But the exhibitors do not support the idea, so there is no conclusion.

“We had a meeting with the organisers this week,” she added, “but after the survey, it is unlikely to have the show organised this year; another option is to have it in 2024, which is yet to be confirmed.”

Lee explained: “Some exhibitors told me that thanks to COVID-19, they have received a lot of orders, so participating in the show wouldn’t be their priority. One mentioned that even second-hand yachts are becoming scarce.

“The Taiwan-made yachts are export-oriented. If overseas buyers cannot visit the show due to border control, it is a bit difficult to organise the show.”
