ROKI retreat

A new era of ultra-luxury arrives in Queenstown, New Zealand.

Queenstown, New Zealand, a place known for throwing people off mountains (with a bungee attached, obviously), serving wine that could make a grown man weep, and generally making the rest of the world look a bit dull by comparison is about to get even fancier.

Enter the ROKI Collection Queenstown, opening mid-2025, a luxury retreat so indulgent it might just make you forget to go outside and look at the actual scenery. Promising a “sanctuary of calm” on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, it’s essentially escapism for those who prefer their tranquillity with a personal butler and a rooftop plunge pool.

Luxury, but make it ludicrous

Every inch of ROKI Collection Queenstown has been designed to soothe the soul, delight the senses and remind you that regular hotels are for peasants.

Interiors come courtesy of acclaimed New Zealand designer Virginia Fisher, and the result is a seamless blend of refined elegance and local craftsmanship. Think plush, understated luxury that says, “I summer in the Alps.”

The suites? Ranging from the “modest” 50-square-metre Junior Suite to the 550-square-metre ROKI Suite, which is so vast it may require its own postal code.

Each one boasts panoramic lake and mountain views, fireplaces for dramatic glass-of-wine contemplations, and walk-in wardrobes for those who packed enough for an Everest expedition.

The suites – because mere hotel rooms won’t do

    • The ROKI Suite – Four bedrooms, in-suite chef and butler, private lift access, a rooftop plunge pool and a sauna. For those who don’t just want luxury but need their own elevator.
    • The Brunswick Suite – three-bedroom wonder with private terraces, outdoor fireplaces, and personal butler service. Ideal for those who like their fresh air curated.
    • The Two-Bedroom Family Suite – separate bedrooms, a lounge, a butler and enough thoughtful amenities to make the whole family-travel thing seem borderline enjoyable.
    • The One-Bedroom Suite – lake views, mountain views and enough space to swan about dramatically.
    • The Deluxe Suite & Junior Suite – because even understated luxury still comes with a walk-in wardrobe.

And, because ROKI knows the rich don’t like walking, local drop-offs are available in the House Car – a Rolls Royce Cullinan, naturally, and only between the entirely logical hours of 5 pm to 9 pm.

Wellness, because you need to recover from all that relaxation

Luxury without a wellness offering is just bad planning, so ROKI has spared no expense in ensuring guests can rejuvenate at a level that probably verges on spiritual enlightenment.

The ROKI Pure spa experience offers everything from thermal zones and private treatment suites to an indoor pool and jacuzzi for those who like their relaxation with optimal humidity. There’s also a Wellness and Sleep Concierge, presumably for people so overstimulated by luxury that they’ve forgotten how to drift off naturally.

Food and drink,  because you can’t live on luxury alone

For the foodies, Essence at ROKI serves up modern European cuisine laced with the finest local ingredients, helmed by Paul Froggatt, winner of NZ’s Luxury Lodges Chef of the Year (which is both a mouthful and a serious accolade).

The Terrace offers a more casual dining experience (fireplaces included, of course), while the Library Bar and Conservatory are there to ensure no one goes more than five minutes without a world-class wine or an expertly crafted cocktail. Guests can also enjoy private dining in intimate snugs, because why mingle when you can eat in splendid isolation?

Queenstown adventures should you wish to leave your suite

For those who feel compelled to actually do something between spa appointments and Michelin-star-level feasting, Queenstown has plenty to offer.

Guests can ski The Remarkables, heli-ski, take scenic flights over Fiordland, or go fly fishing, which presumably still counts as adventure even if someone else is doing the hard work for you.

ROKI’s concierge can arrange romantic gourmet picnics in the mountains, private boat excursions and scenic hikes, ensuring you return to your suite with just enough exertion to justify another round of spa treatments.

Opening mid-2025 – reservations now open

Bed & Breakfast Rates start at a modest NZD 2,800 per night, scaling up to a staggering NZD 32,000 for the full “I own the world” experience.

ROKI Collection Queenstown, because why rough it in nature when you can admire it from a temperature-controlled, designer-furnished cocoon?
