With only 8 weeks to go until submissions close for the 2018 Australian Marine Industry Awards, AIMEX has already received a number of high calibre applications from a comprehensive range of businesses large and small.

The awards application process is an opportunity to reflect and define your business capabilities and has been described by past winners as a tool also to provide recognition for the hard work and achievements of their team, inspiring them to continually raise the standards in everything that they do.

The awards are presented at the annual Marine Industry Awards Gala Dinner on the 22nd May 2018 in MacArthur’s ballroom at the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort, immediately prior to the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.

Ron Schroeder, Director of Rainman Desalination said “We were delighted to win three AIMEX export awards for 2017, including Marine Exporter of the Year.  Our whole team was excited to receive industry recognition for the very hard work involved with building our company. For a relatively young company at three years since initial product launch, these awards nicely complement favourable magazine and customer reviews in adding credibility to our concept, products and company.”

The 2018 judging panel will meet in Sanctuary Cove on Tuesday 16th April 2017 to judge the applications and decide on the 2018 winners. The panel participants include industry identities; Ken Evans (Chair Judge) – Marine Consultant; Barry Jenkins – Government, Industry and International Relations, Mulpha Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show; John Zammit – Founder and Publisher, Shipmate Marine Directory; Joe Akacich – Managing Director, Blackpond Marine Consultants Pty Ltd; Anton Helmke – Trade Adviser, Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade); Steve Mitchell – Naval Architect/ Marine Consultant.

A separate judging panel has been formed for the new Australian Voyage Award and will convene early April to discuss and review the entries. Panel will consist of a representative from Tourism Australia; Barry Jenkins from Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show; MaryAnne Edwards, Superyacht Australia; Captain Carl and Melanie Brandes from MY Glaze and a representative from Austrade.

The industry has responded to the new Australian Voyage Award with enthusiasm and the response so far has been incredibly positive.

This inaugural award is the initiative of Captain Carl Brandes and his wife Melanie and they are very generously sponsoring this award.  After their own experience of winning the Voyagers Award and being in attendance at the World Superyacht Awards announced in Florence, they wanted to share this unbelievable experience and opportunity to promote Australia with the Australian industry. Superyacht Australia encourage all of industry to promote this award and encourage Superyachts who cruised within Australian waters during 2017 to apply by the 23rd March 2018.
