Level 3 restrictions are in place all over New Zealand, except for Auckland, which remains at Level 4.

After researching government advice, including through Worksafe and Sport New Zealand websites, NZ Marine brings to your attention that under Alert Level 3, the following business activities can take place, subject to the related health and safety requirements being adhered to:

    1. Marine industry companies are permitted to sea-trial new and serviced boats/vessels, in an inner harbour sheltered water area, as part of their normal business practice, subject to the company having workplace plans in place to comply with the physical distancing and contactless customer requirements and other requirements of COVID-19 Alert Level 3. This now includes all parties wearing a mask and maintaining a 2-metre distance if dealing with a client.
    2. Marine industry companies are permitted to motor/move a customer’s boat/vessel, in an inner harbour sheltered water area, to a local servicing area or haulout yard for marine companies to refit/service the boat/vessel, as part of their normal business practice, subject to the company having workplace plans in place to comply with the physical distancing and contactless customer requirements and other requirements of COVID-19 Alert Level 3. It is strongly recommended that work colleagues wear a mask in addition to maintaining the 1-metre distance from each other.

Marine industry companies in the business of selling their own stock boats or on behalf of vendor’s boats as part of their normal business practice may do so subject to the company having workplace plans in place to comply with the physical distancing and contactless customer requirements and other requirements of COVID-19 Alert Level 3. This now includes all parties wearing a mask and maintaining a 2-metre distance if dealing with a client.

Please note that boat shops, display rooms and boat agency offices will need to remain closed to the public and customers at all times.

    1. Regarding recreational use of some boats, under Level 3, kayaking, canoeing, rowing, surfing, windsurfing and paddleboarding are permitted; however, it is recommended these activities take place within 200 metres of shore. Sailing, motorised craft/equipment or scuba diving are not allowed.
