Vripack’s latest project, the 41-metre superyacht Hygge, reflects the design studio’s focus on smart and efficient use of space. Although the yacht’s overall size is standard, its layout is distinctive. It offers a solution that accommodates the owner’s needs for accommodation, social spaces, and family activities while maximising space and functionality.

Built by MCP Yachts in Brazil, Hygge follows the earlier delivery of the Vripack-designed 37.46m Queen Tati, an award-finalist in 2023. The superyacht, which features exterior design and naval architecture by Vripack, is a custom explorer vessel. Due to restrictions on length imposed by the shipyard’s facilities, the designers opted for increased volume over extended length.

Hygge has the largest volume (380 GT) for a full-aluminium motor yacht constructed in South America. The yacht’s interior, designed by Leonardo Rotsen, accommodates 10 guests across seven guest cabins. This includes an upper deck owner’s suite with forward-facing views, his-and-hers bathrooms, and a private terrace. There is also accommodation for 10 crew.

The yacht’s layout is achieved through an efficient interior design, where the galley and laundry room have been relocated to the lower deck portside, allowing for four guest cabins on the main deck and two additional guest cabins on the lower deck starboard side.

“We split the lower deck into two areas,” says Bart Bouwhuis, co-creative director at Vripack.

“Both sections have separate access and stairways allowing service to continue unimpeded across all decks, and guests to enjoy their time together in privacy. It also means the main deck is given over entirely to guest use.

The yacht’s split-level wheelhouse, located on the top deck, offers panoramic visibility for the captain. A jacuzzi, surrounded by tan-coloured sunpads, is situated aft of the wheelhouse, providing a social space for guests. Additional guest amenities on the lower deck include a beach club with a spa, gym, sauna and a large swim platform. Formal dining takes place in the sky lounge, with al fresco dining available on the main deck aft. A private banquet area forward of the owner’s suite offers another communal space.

Hygge is designed for cruising in Brazil, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean. The semi-displacement hull, reminiscent of a fast naval frigate, supports a top speed of 23 knots and a cruising speed of 18 knots.

Hygge is built with a full-aluminium hull that allows for unmatched internal volume, lightness and autonomy,” says Damien Chaves, director of engineering at MCP Yachts. “She is a 40m superyacht that offers the comfort of a 50m, yet with a draft and lightness that allows her owner a more dynamic, versatile and sustainable range for global exploration.”

Hygge was delivered in July 2024.
