From halotherapy Himalayan salt coves to meditation rooms and manicured rooftop gardens, ‘experience’ is the new luxury in the world’s top residential developments.
New residential developments worldwide are integrating unique wellness amenities typically found in luxury hotels, as a new global trend for holistic wellness increasingly blurs the line between residential living and resort-like experiences.
Chelsea NYC’s “Maverick” building, for example, features a spiritual concierge to boost residents’ mental health complete with meditation sanctuary, alongside it’s lap pool and fitness centre. Santa Monica’s “The Park” entices residents with a 1-acre rooftop park from which to enjoy the great outdoors high above the city, and San Francisco’s “Chorus” (also home to a City Ballet and Chorus Hall) boasts an American Ninja Warrior-inspired training course and high-tech amenities.
And now Lendlease has unveiled Australia’s most opulent hotel-style amenities at its highly anticipated, once-in-a-generation residential development One Sydney Harbour and it’s set to transform residential standards for luxury.
Beyond simple shared residential amenities, One Sydney Harbour’s three towers combine exclusive residents’ wellness and social spaces with private retreats and experiences befitting one of Sydney’s most coveted addresses.
Think architecturally inspired health and wellness facilities in a single elevator ride away. Imagine extraordinary, curated wellness experiences at your fingertips. Consider thoughtfully created spaces that use design to maximise wellbeing, from the colour of the stone floor finishes to the choice of natural materials.
Lendlease has partnered with architect Renzo Piano (Renzo Piano Building Workshop) and interior architect Daniel Goldberg (State of Craft) to create The Club, which features sophisticated health and wellness spaces, indoor and outdoor pools, terraces, beautiful places to socialise, and private rooms to entertain.
These exclusive facilities are well beyond the average development gym, pool, and spa.
The Club is made up of six distinct zones incorporating The Pool House, The Garden Terrace, The Sanctuary, The Pool Deck, The Club House and The Sky Terrace, each with their own distinct amenities.
Inspired by the Blue Mountains’ lush vegetation and private rock pools, One Sydney Harbour’s exquisite The Pool House is awash in deep green marble to create a temple-like space that seems almost carved from crystalline green rock.
“Research shows that different colours can evoke different psychological and physiological responses, which can influence our overall wellness,” explains Daniel Goldberg, State of Craft. “We chose this shade of green for The Pool House for its ability to promote a sense of balance and harmony. It symbolises nature and growth, is soothing on the eyes and can help reduce anxiety and stress.”
Illuminated from within and set amid a glazed façade that runs along three sides overlooking Hickson Park, the crystal-clear water creates the illusion of swimming in nature. Classic columns, ceiling blades and statement artwork heighten the sense of grandeur while palm fronds, cane and linen furniture create an understated tropical oasis.
Residents can access The Spa, The Sauna and The Steam Room directly from The Pool House via a natural stone clad freestanding wall. Natural daylight also gently illuminates the circular white marble Steam Room.
One Sydney Harbour’s Outdoor Garden Terrace on Level 2 is a private garden conceived by Renzo Piano as a space where residents can relax and find respite from the busy CBD.
Visible from the apartments above, it overlooks Watermans Cove and features impressive views across the harbour towards Balmain and Pyrmont framed by a lush mix of native and exotic plantings that link it with the surrounding terraces and podiums.
The Sanctuary is an open-plan temple to self-care. It features high-energy workout spaces, two wellness rooms, for treatments and massages, and a multi-functional studio realised in light timber and subtle, integrated lighting for yoga and Pilates classes, complete with equipment. A separate area for beauty treatments, hair and makeup means residents can book their self-care treatments close to home.
The Renzo Piano-designed Pool Deck is a tranquil space surrounded by foliage with uninterrupted views over Waterman’s Cove. Complete with rows of sun loungers a la the French Riviera or straight out of a Hollywood movie, it promises to be one of Sydney’s most chic places to soak up Sydney’s glorious rays.
The Sky Terrace is inspired by a Mediterranean olive grove conceptualised by Renzo Piano Building Workshop as a breakout space high above the harbour, where residents can enjoy BBQs and entertain against a backdrop of stunning CBD views.
In addition to One Sydney Harbour’s health and wellness amenities, many opportunities exist for entertaining in ‘The Club’. The Orangery is inspired by European 18th-century greenhouses. With its stone floor, rattan-lined ceiling, and adjoining veranda, this space reimagines Sydney’s laid-back lifestyle, with the perfect balance of relaxation and sophistication in serene spaces set for leisure and entertainment.
Furthermore, three linked spaces The Billiards Room, The Wine Gallery and The Blue Room are serviced by a commercial kitchen nearby simply dubbed The Kitchen. As you enter these intimate spaces—all bookable and for general resident use—the design cues become warmer, more earthy and more decadent, with natural stone floors and blackbutt joinery in contrast to The Orangery’s bright, airy feel.
The Billiards Room has a central pool table for relaxing after work or on the weekends. A custom lid for the pool table instantly transforms the space into a function room for cocktails and other get togethers.
Next door is The Wine Gallery where a golden wash of light illuminates lavish private dining events and sommelier-hosted wine tastings, Copper and native Australian timber enhance the Wine Gallery’s sophisticated surroundings, reflecting Sydney’s unique natural beauty and creating a warm and intimate setting for special occasions. The Blue Room is a more intimate private dining space with a feature blue leather-clad wall perfect for wine tastings and gourmet entertaining for up to for 10 guests.
One Sydney Harbour’s amenities are part of a growing global trend towards treating our homes as an investment in our wellness. Research by the Global Wellness Institute shows that well-being is the mantra in amenities right now as more buyers swap logos and car-carrying elevators for more intangible investments that prioritise serenity and well-being.
As the line between home, work and wellness dissolves, developers, architects, and interior designers are focused on wellness-centred residential designs that support a vibrant, flourishing lifestyle.
One Sydney Harbour’s tallest tower, Residences One is now complete with first residents moving in. Residences Two and Waterman’s Residences will be complete this year. Final, last chance apartments are now selling in this once in a lifetime development.
