GX Superyachts, a new range of aluminium superyachts from 24 to 56 metres in length, has made its debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, which ran from October 30 to November 3 in Florida.
Developed by the team behind Greenline Yachts, known for their hybrid propulsion systems, GX Superyachts says its vessels are designed with a focus on both luxury and environmental responsibility. The initial model, a 42-metre vessel, is currently in production.
GX Superyachts builds on the expertise of Slovenian shipyard Greenline Yachts, which has delivered hybrid yachts up to 18 metres over the past 15 years. The team aims to extend these features into the superyacht market by applying its experience in hybrid propulsion and solar charging.
This line-up includes yachts from 24 to 56 metres, featuring designs by Marco Casali with options for a Coupé or RPH (raised pilothouse) flybridge layout. The brand’s environmentally conscious design incorporates Greenline’s serial hybrid drive system and solar arrays built into the yacht’s structure, aiming to reduce carbon emissions significantly.
“Our journey started with Greenline Yachts, where we pioneered the world’s first serial production hybrid yacht over 10 metres back in 2008,” says Vladimir Zinchenko, owner of the yard.
“With more than 1,000 yachts delivered globally, Greenline has been at the forefront of innovation in the boating industry. Throughout that time, we have tried to further our vision of responsible yachting – from sourcing raw materials right through to the operation of the yacht itself.”
Andrea Armas, with 28 years in yacht-building and experience as an owner’s representative, has joined as a consultant to GX’s board of directors. He remarks, “I am backing GX Superyachts because I admire their ambition and vision.
“My goal is to help the team translate their decade-long experience in hybrid recreational boat building into the highly regulated superyacht sector.”
The concept for GX Superyachts was first envisioned at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2018, when Greenline’s all-electric 9.99-metre yacht attracted the attention of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco. This led to the development of GX Superyachts, which integrates a hybrid propulsion system allowing for efficient electric cruising alongside powerful diesel performance.
“At 6 knots in electric mode, these yachts can achieve an incredible range of up to 100 nautical miles,” says chief commercial officer Luca Raumland. “In diesel mode, they can cross the Atlantic at 12 knots, with a maximum range of 11,571 nautical miles at 6 knots.”
The GX line is designed to emit less than 40 percent of the carbon emissions of conventional yachts. Additionally, extensive solar arrays and a lithium battery bank enable the yacht to remain at anchor with full hotel systems, including air conditioning, powered by batteries for 48 hours or more without the need for a generator.
The first GX42 is under construction, with the keel laid on 1 June 2024, and delivery expected in mid-2026. SES Yachts in Tuzla, Turkey, is the selected build partner, as Greenline’s facilities in Slovenia focus on composite construction up to 24 metres.
“There’s no better time to launch this project than now, as we mark the 50th anniversary of our activity,” says Elif Yıldırım, managing partner at SES Yachts.
“We embrace custom and semi-custom projects, and the GX Superyachts range aligns with our in-house capabilities. We understand and share the principles behind the brand, being a family-owned business ourselves and equally concerned about sustainability. Collaboration on the first model has been very smooth, and we look forward to building more yachts with GX.”
Marco Casali has crafted the exterior design for GX Superyachts, emphasising efficient, low-profile superstructures with spacious interiors. Two model options are available: the Coupé, with a solar-roofed superstructure that opens to reveal a sun deck with jacuzzi and bar, and the RPH, which features a large flybridge and 353 gross tonnes of volume. Both designs offer a beach club with fold-down wings and a hydraulic platform.
Interior details for the GX42 model include features by brands such as Antonio Lupi porcelainware, Dornbracht faucets, Poltrona Frau and Rugiano furniture, Foglizzo leathers, and Cadorin natural wood flooring.
Casali, founder of Too Design, notes, “Our studio has long worked with Greenline Yachts, so we understood exactly what the new GX Superyachts brief required.
“I am proud of the way we have reinterpreted the timeless looks of the smaller yachts to give soul and purpose to the lines of the new superyachts.”
The underwater hull, designed by Francesco Rogantin of Names studio, aims to maximise both stability and speed potential, optimising performance across operational speeds.
“It felt like a very natural partnership with GX Superyachts, who knew exactly what they wanted: a hyper-efficient and stable displacement hull,” says Rogantin. “The challenge was to analyse different operational scenarios and ensure that the hull and appendages performed to their best for each one.”
The first GX42 is scheduled for delivery in the middle of 2026.
