Fjord has introduced its latest model, the Fjord 490, available in two versions: the Fjord 490 Open with inboard engines and the Fjord 490 Sport with outboard engines.
Customers can choose between two propulsion options. There are two Volvo Penta inboard engines on the Open, each offering up to 800 hp and reaching speeds of 34 knots.
There are three Mercury V12 Verado outboard engines on the Sport, each delivering 600 hp for speeds of up to 45 knots. Both configurations are designed to provide strong performance and agility in a range of conditions.
The new yacht marks the first collaboration between the Italian yacht designer Marco Casali and Fjord’s parent company, German boatbuilder HanseYachts.
As with previous Fjord models, the Fjord 490 focuses on power, stability and durability, with a hydrodynamically optimised hull and reinforced construction.
A key feature on the Fjord 490 is the addition of folding side balconies, extending deck space. The T-top offers shade, and the spacious deck layout includes sun loungers at the rear and foredeck, along with a fully equipped cockpit galley.
The Fjord 490 Sport also includes ample storage space under the sunbed, suitable for water sports equipment like stand-up paddleboards or diving gear.
Below deck, the Fjord 490 offers several layout options. Owners can select a configuration featuring a saloon with seating in the foredeck and a double cabin, or opt for two double cabins. Up to two bathrooms can also be added.
Depending on individual preferences, bulkheads and doors can be included for enhanced privacy. Buyers can also select from four interior design styles, featuring a coordinated mix of colours and materials.
“We worked with passion alongside Marco Casali and our internal design and engineering team to create the Fjord 490, blending uniqueness with innovation,” says Andrea Zambonini, Fjord Product Manager.
“Our goal was to meet the expectations of loyal customers looking for a larger yacht while also attracting new clients who appreciate the iconic Fjord design. Every detail, from the folding side balconies to the optimised interior layouts, was crafted to deliver the perfect balance of comfort, performance and style.”
The Fjord 490’s hull features a high-performance sandwich construction for stability at high speeds. The helm station, equipped with state-of-the-art navigation and control systems, accommodates up to four pilot seats. The galley includes options for a sink, work surface, electric grill, refrigerator, and freezer, with seating for up to ten people.
The aft sun lounge provides a spacious relaxation area. Electric winches can be added to the aft cleats for easy mooring, while the optional mooring assistant from Volvo Penta makes mooring manoeuvres simple, even in narrow harbours or in challenging weather conditions.
The entire cockpit is shaded by the largest T-top in this class, which can be extended with an optional electric bimini for even greater sun protection.
As is typical on all Fjord walkaround decks, the second large sun lounge on the foredeck can be reached without steps. The large bathing platform at the stern can be lowered hydraulically as an option for maximum comfort, while the Fjord 490 Sport’s design concentrates on the areas to the side of the outboard engines.
In the outboard version, an electric gangway can be fitted on request to provide both convenient access to the yacht and a perfect bathing ladder.
The Fjord 490 Open, equipped with two Volvo Penta D8-IPS700 engines, starts at a base price of €1.1mn (A$1.9mn) plus VAT. The Fjord 490 Sport, featuring three Mercury Verado 7.6-litre V12 engines, starts at €1.2 million (A$2.1 million) plus VAT.
