SailGP Season 1 was an outstanding success, attracting 133,000 spectators in its inaugural year in all five of the Iconic venues : Sydney, San Francisco, New York, Cowes and Marseille.

In 2020, Australia’s Tom Slingsby, will be keen to get his championship title defence off to a strong start in front of a home crowd. Slingsby is the first sailor ever to break 50 knots (100 kph) during racing in Season 1, and in SailGP Season 2, will be even more determined to beat his own record.

Sydney Harbour provides a natural amphitheatre to showcase the high-tech foiling F50 catamarans and world-class athletes, and the breathtaking backdrop of cityscape and natural wonder will impress visitors who flock here from around the region and from all over the world.

SAILGP SEASON 2 FACTS AND STATS

• SailGP Season 2 will take place in Sydney, 28 and 29 February 2020, with three races scheduled per day between 15:00 and 17:00
• Teams representing Australia, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Japan, Spain and the United States will go head to head over a series of short-format races
• The F50s are the world’s fastest sail racing boats – capable of reaching over 50 knots
• SailGP’s F50 crowned World Sailing’s Boat of the Year
• SailGP attracted global audience of 1.8 billion in Season 1
• Tom Slingsby and the Australia SailGP Team took home the unprecedented US$1 million prize for winning Season 1, which is the largest monetary prize in the sport of sailing
• The SailGP Championship trophy is a creation of Thomas Lyte, regarded as the world’s leading trophy maker
• The F50 is a development, one-design class. For SailGP Season 2, a number of exciting design and engineering updates will take place to ensure it stays at the forefront of the sport. Currently, revolutionary new modular wingsails are under construction and a seventh boat is being tested. An additional team and venue is expected to be added to the roster for SailGP Season 2.
