In response to significant interest in the GCX40 explorer yacht, designed by Misha Merzliakov Yacht Design (MMYD), a new joint venture brings together leading figures in the industry.

Joining MMYD is Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard (GCCM), Marine Engineering Consultants (MEC), Periscope Naval Architects and Evolution Motor Yachts, which will be the trading name for the group.

Under the leadership of Kevin Altera, founder of Evolution Yachts, the group combines decades of yacht designing and building expertise, particularly in aluminium superyacht construction, to design and deliver this 40-metre superyacht on the Gold Coast, Australia.

“The partners in this joint venture have been selected as they represent key and market-leading marine services.  It puts into motion the intent and capability to build world-class superyachts on the east coast of Australia,” said Kevin Altera.

The explorer yacht concept by MMYD was released at the 2019 Australian Superyacht Rendezvous, held at GCCM, and received great interest with multiple enquiries. It would be the next superyacht to be built under the Evolution Motor Yachts banner which began in 2009 and has launched leading yachts including MY Benita Blue.

“GCCM is the ideal shipyard with the Pacific Ocean cruising grounds on its doorstep. GCCM can offer the depth and breadth of quality Australian marine trades to work on the yacht’s construction,” explained Misha Merzliakov.

“We can pull from 80 individual businesses and 700 individual tradespeople to deliver this project under the watchful eyes of a master builder, Murray Owen, and experienced project manager, Kevin Altera.”

MEC is owned and operated by Australian stalwart, Murray Owen, and has won multiple awards for excellence in aluminium yacht construction.

Capable of 16 knots and with a range of 5,500 nautical miles, the 42-metre GCX40 is base priced at €15.7 EUR million including design.  Full specifications available to qualified interested parties.
