The 2020 Australian Marine Industry Awards Gala Dinner will take place on the evening of Thursday 12 November at Southport Yacht Club on the Gold Coast, immediately prior to the Sanctuary Cove Boating Festival being held from 13 – 15 November.

The Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX), the Australian Commercial Marine Group (ACMG) and Superyacht Australia, launched ticket sales this week and are fully expecting this event to sell out quickly.

Featuring inspiring entertainment, a three-course meal, signature wines and Australian beer, it is the perfect setting for the Australian marine export, superyacht and commercial marine business sectors to come together and celebrate the stars in our industry.

David Good, CEO commented, “We are thrilled to be able to host this COVID-safe industry event next month at Southport Yacht Club, a new and exciting venue for this event in 2020. We are looking forward to awarding our deserving member companies and individuals for their outstanding skills and services.”

The highly anticipated awards gala dinner gives guests the opportunity to build on their networks and honour the outstanding achievements made over the past year, all whilst overlooking the stunning views of Southport Yacht Clubs private 300 yacht marina and the tranquil Gold Coast Broadwater.

Although the 2020 ASMEX Conference was unable to proceed due to the restrictions imposed by Covid-19, AIMEX was committed to keeping the awards program open and extended the deadline for entries. As a result, the highest amount of applications on record over the awards’ program 11-year history were submitted, further proving the depth of capability of the marine industry across the export, superyacht and commercial sectors.

All the judges were impressed with the volume of exceptionally high-quality entries received, which certainly did not make their job any easier. The judging panel for 2020 brought together a broad cross-section of skills and experience from within the industry and all judges gave each and every application their full attention and scrutiny. The 2020 judges panel included:

  • MaryAnne Edwards, Chair Judge – Global Marine Business Advisors
  • Barry Jenkins – Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show
  • Joe Akacich – BlackPond Marine Consultants
  • Hillary Buckman – Ocean Media
  • Michael Taylor – Austrade
  • Rob Miley – Former Chairman of Tasmanian Maritime Network
  • Thomas Wechselberger – Project Manager, Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning QLD

MaryAnne Edwards, Chair Judge commented, “I commend the team at AIMEX for the attraction, collation and professional presentation of this year’s entries, as to attract 50 entries of such a very high calibre would be no mean feat in our current business environment. I am sure it was not easy for businesses making the time to put entries together when most owners are more focused on survival and trying to understand where this current market is going.

“For those that did I have to say it is impressive and certainly reminds us all about the skills, expertise, quality and innovation of our industry here in Australia.

All entries were extremely competitive and whilst there are always some that do stand out, this year it was probably closer than ever before and I look forward to being present on the night to acknowledge all who entered,” MaryAnne concluded.

After the sell-out Awards Dinner in 2019, and due to the limited number of tickets available, AIMEX is urging industry members to book early to ensure your seat is reserved.
