Genoa-based Otam specialises in customisation requests, but the boutique boatbuilder says its newest and seventh Otam 80HT takes modification to a new level, thanks to “extreme” custom specs from the owner-operator client.
The new Otam 80HT has a particularly robust construction, featuring a full Kevlar hull and deck, complemented by carbon fibre hardtop and deck components selected by the owner.
The Italian shipyard says the selection required an exclusive lamination package and additional uni-directional fibres in high-load areas.
Otam, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, has modified the engineering of the hardtop coupling and removed the central windshield pillar, creating a view with minimal obstruction.
The yacht features a customised dashboard and instrumentation package with multiple back-up systems specified by the owner who will drive and crew the boat himself.
Otam says the complexity of the shipyard’s engineering work was aimed at building a yacht that has straightforward systems, in response to the owner’s request to access the engine room as little as possible.
Other custom features include the sliding sunroof integrated in the hardtop and the bespoke garage with space for two jet skis. Extra-tall structural windows without pillars in the main deck saloon and the double windows in the full-beam master suite generate more natural light.
Performance is maximised by lightweight construction, hull lines by Umberto Tagliavini and Aldo Scorzoni Marine Design & Services, and twin MTU 2600hp engines coupled to Arneson drives, capable of delivering speeds up to 47 knots.
“Bespoke design and smart engineering is in our DNA and we set up the Otam Co-Design Lab so clients can build their boats the way they dream them,” says Matteo Belardinelli, Otam’s sales and communication manager.
“This owner came to us in particular because he wanted to build something truly different – he knew that with Otam, he’d find the flexibility and necessary expertise from a brand that works outside the classic comfort zone.
“I’m confident we can not only meet but also exceed his expectations by working diligently together.”
Nuvolari Lenard was appointed to curate interior styling and exterior detailing, marking a first-time collaboration between Otam and the powerhouse Italian design duo.
“Selected specifically by the owner because of their superyacht experience and reputation, the Venice-based design studio brings an unparalleled sense of uniqueness to this project,” says Belardinelli.
“I’ve represented Otam for eight years and I can honestly say that this seventh 80HT is undoubtedly the most sophisticated, elegant and technically advanced we’ve ever produced.”
With the hull and deck lamination complete and special insulation components installed, outfitting has started and construction is on schedule for delivery in March 2025.
