French shipyard Chantiers Amel is marking the launch of its 100th Amel 50 yacht, a model that continues to be popular among its international clientele.

Introduced in 2017 during a challenging economic period, this 15-metre yacht represented a departure from the shipyard’s traditional designs, featuring a smaller size, different hull design, and new rigging options. Despite these changes, the Amel 50 maintained the brand’s key attributes, including safety, comfort, and ease of handling, while also delivering enhanced sailing performance.

The design, by La Rochelle-based architects Olivier and Isabelle Racoupeau of Berret Racoupeau Yachts Design, successfully retained the shipyard’s core values while introducing new energy into the model.

The Amel 50 has received industry recognition, including the European Yacht of the Year award in 2018 and Sail USA’s Best Boat of the Year in 2020. The yacht has also benefited from ongoing developments by the shipyard’s design office, which aims to improve autonomy, onboard comfort and environmental sustainability.

When the sale was finalised in June 2022, the shipyard teams had already celebrated the 100th Amel 50, with the order book filled for the following two years.

The Amel 50 No.100 was launched on 4 July 2024 at the Port of La Rochelle in France, with the owners present.

Although the nautical industry is experiencing a slowdown, the Amel 50 remains in demand, with sales booked until the end of 2025 and some delivery dates extending into 2026.

“The launch of the 100th Amel 50 is a testament to our shipyard’s commitment to excellence and innovation,” says Emmanuel Poujeade, CEO of the shipyard. “We are, of course, deeply grateful to the clients who have chosen us to build their yacht, and we are always thrilled to see that the Amel concept appeals to such a wide variety of nationalities and sailor profiles.

“This milestone not only highlights the success of this model but also the enthusiasm and dedication of all our teams.”

Amel plans to build on this success by further enhancing the reliability and comfort of its yachts.

Since July 2023, the company has been modernising its production site, adhering to the legacy of its founder, Henri Amel, while adapting to increasing environmental considerations. Amel says it remains focused on providing its clients with memorable experiences at sea.

The Amel 50 No.100 will be showcased at the Cannes Yachting Festival from 10 to 15 September 2024 at Port Canto, Booth Sail 194.
