Stats & Facts: Sanctuary Cove 2017

The 29th Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show will run 25 to 28 May on Queensland's Gold Coast. Here, Sales & Exhibition Manager, Dominic O'Brien updates Ocean on the numbers so far.

Dominic O’Brien is gearing up for his second SCIBS since joining Sanctuary Cove as Sales & Exhibition Manager in 2015.

With a strong background in leisure, sports, tourism and events, he was previously Executive Officer for the Queensland Division of the PGA of Australia and Sales Manager – Leisure for RACV Royal Pines Resort. His boating experience extends back to his childhood on the waterways around Geelong in Victoria.

For Dominic, SCIBS is a “unique marine event that attracts world class exhibitors and high quality visitors”.

“For every segment, SCIBS represents the best of the Australian and international industries meaning it is the best place for visitors to research, find and purchase their dream boat”.

2017 promises to be “an exceptional show for exhibitors and visitors alike with expanded display areas throughout the marine village.”

How many exhibitors so far?
Well over 200 and growing towards the 300 + mark

How many boats on water?
130+

Compared to previous years, are you up on number of exhibitors and space reserved?
Exhibitor numbers are well ahead of 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Which major sponsors are new?
Bentley Brisbane has taken major sponsor rights, replacing Maserati which has been onboard as major sponsor for the past four years.

Is there a strong showing in any particular category this year?
On water – amazing array of trawlers, sports boats and catamarans (both power & sail). Trailer boats have increased markedly with fibreglass boats throughout the streets, the Boatyard and the Docks. We’ve expanded into the hotel carpark to accommodate requests

Do you know approximate number of world and Australian launches?
Last year this was 70+. Looking strong for a similar number or more

Who are some of the brands and businesses that have returned after a few years’ hiatus?
Clipper, DeFever, Nordhavn, Nautique Central, Tige, Mastercraft, BLA, Volvo Penta (Seamech), Penske Power, Nautilus Insurance, Seabob,

What are some of the attractions and entertainment planned for 2017?
Women on Water cruise, entertainers everywhere, main stage, Paul Burt & the SCIBS Shimano Live Bream Shoot Out fishing tournament, Seabbattical Short Film Festival (through Multihull Central).

Is there any space available for prospective exhibitors?
Minimal space left in the Pavilions, with the Open Areas and the Marina moving towards capacity

Are there changes to layout and space this year?
Additional space added to the Pavilions with significant expansions of open area space and on-water options.

Importantly, what is the weather shaping up like?
Autumn is beautiful on the Gold Coast – the best weather in Australia! Blue skies and calm winds will be the order of the day!
