New generation

Oyster Yachts celebrates the launch of the Oyster 565.

On Thursday 10 May 2019, yacht manufacturer Oyster Yachts launched its new yacht, the Oyster 565.

The new model sailed down the River Thames at sunset, passing under Tower Bridge. A celebratory party was held on the walkways above, attended by business leaders, media, celebrity guests and loyal supporters of the Oyster brand.

The entry-level 18-metre sailboat uses the latest generation of Oyster hull shapes, developed by Humphreys Yacht Design. It was designed for friends and family sailing and does not require a professional crew.

Rob Humphreys, Oyster Yachts’ Naval Architect commented: “The 565 is the latest of Oyster’s next generation fleet designed by Humphreys Yacht Design. She is a truly spectacular sailing yacht and – though at the smaller end of the Oyster fleet – does not compromise on comfort or performance. No need for a professional crew, we designed her with the adventurous couple and young family in mind. This year’s order book is already almost full and that is – of course – a huge source of pride for us and for the whole team at Oyster. This is just the beginning.”

The latest twin-rudder hull form provides a well-balanced steering system while facilitating many different layout and keel options. These include a supershoal sail plan for navigating shallow waters and an extended transom, which offers more space for entertaining outdoors. With customisable interior design, the yacht offers an exceptional level of comfort for long-distance ocean cruising or global circumnavigation, while being equally well-suited to shorthanded weekend sailing.

The launch of the 565 comes a little over a year after Oyster Yachts was bought out of administration by technology entrepreneur Richard Hadida. The company’s turnaround has been remarkable, with its order almost book full with orders from around the world and the launch of several new models on the horizon.

“Words cannot describe the excitement I feel to see Oyster enter such an exhilarating phase in its evolution,” Richard Hadida, CEO and Owner of Oyster Yachts.

“The 565, fondly known as our “pocket superyacht”, is everything an adventurous couple or young family could want. A reflection of this is our ever-expanding order book. This is an important moment in Oyster’s history, and I look forward to many, many more.”

With manufacturing up and running at both the Wroxham and Southampton sites, the company is optimistic about the coming years. The launch of this new model follows £20 million investment over the last 12 months.
