Hosted by Associate Director Tom Hill, General Manager Andrew Cannon and International Business Manager Steve Fisher, the occasion has become a traditional interlude between the two significant industry events and the ideal opportunity for senior industry leaders and luminaries to catch up in a social setting, enjoy excellent Italian fare, discuss industry issues and in some cases, engage in rigorous debate!

After Tom Hill’s official welcome and tribute to the passing of his close friend and mentor, Steve Boerema, conversation stretched late into the evening over hearty Italian cuisine and cockle-warming wines.

Rivergate has a close working relationship with AIMEX-Superyacht Australia, focused on industry development and attracting superyachts to our region.

Rivergate is a proud member of AIMEX-Superyacht Australia and sponsor of the Awards, as well as other initiatives such as the Australian Tahiti Rendezvous, this year 22 June at Marina Taina, Papeete.

Topics included the changes to Queensland superyacht regulations, cruising locations in Australia and the Asia Pacific and how Queensland rates, comparisons of yards and the pros and cons of their facilities, both in Australia and overseas, recommendations for contractors for refits, compiling itineraries for owners, and beyond work, social sailing, surfing, travel tales and the best places to explore on this blue planet.

Guests included several Captains, industry leaders and local and international media. L. Bruce Jones CEO at Triton Submarines and Liz Jones were guests of Rivergate through a recent project that involved the installation of Triton submarines. Also in attendance were Paul Archer, Director of Arrow Services Monaco, Kitty McGowan President of the US Superyacht Association, who also toured the Rivergate facilities before returning to Florida, Princess Yachts’ Kiran Haslam, Benetti’s Peter Mahony and Gordon Fernandes from Asia Pacific Superyachts.

“It’s always great to catch up with other Captains and those in the industry for a fresh slant on things,” said Captain Luke Caldwell (MY Kokomo II).

“Seeing old faces and meeting new people is great. We always have a laugh and look back on some fun times,” said Captain Paul Maguire (MY Hey Jude). “It’s great to share and compare, get up to date with new places and new gear. The innovations in subs from Bruce and Liz was really exciting. They are capable of diving deeper than ever before, which is incredible.”

Captain Jeff Coleman and his wife Lindsey Marwood (MY Crystal Lady) attended for the first time and said the benefit of such events was “invaluable”.

“The group was eclectic, with a nice balance of different people. The whole atmosphere was wonderful. Rivergate’s events are invaluable because it’s professionals unwinding, talking about stuff that we probably wouldn’t discuss in any other forum. Being a peer to peer relationship, we can discuss topics which are broad and far reaching in an informal setting – which is the appeal of the night. It helps when the food and wine are so good!”

Andrew Cannon, General Manager at Rivergate said “Each year, ASMEX and the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show attract significant players in the superyacht sector. Rivergate is looking forward to welcoming back our clients, colleagues and friends when 2019 rolls around and we host the next Superyacht Industry Dinner.”
