Guests spanning the spectrum of Chief Stewardesses, Pursers, Yacht and Charter Managers, joined together for the inaugural “Interior Motives” luncheon, a timely event organised by Boat Style Yacht Interiors, Major Yacht Services and Sydney Superyacht Marina.

The event was held at the stylish Banksii Vermouth Bar & Bistro in Barangaroo, with panoramic Harbour views, where guests were welcomed with rose vermouth cocktails and jeweled sea-inspired garlands for their hair, then seated at a table adorned with exquisite blue roses.

Sarah Egan, founder and Director of Boat Style Yacht Interiors has 10 years’ experience creating luxurious, customised spaces for superyachts. Her vision for “Interior Motives” is to “connect interior crew in a meaningful and collaborative way”.

“Superyacht heads of interior work extremely arduous hours to demanding time pressure. They are meticulous and take immense pride in their work to meet and exceed guest expectations. Delivering that kind of ‘next level service’ requires a masterful eye for detail and genuine commitment.

“Interior Motives aims to bring these amazing people together in a relaxed atmosphere to network, share ideas and raise the profile of their roles.”

Guests were spoilt with a menu commencing with charcuterie platters, followed by winter salads, green pea risotto, roast dukkah chicken, glazed lamb shoulder, followed by a delectable trifle dessert. Rosé vermouth cocktails, Aperol spritzers and Espresso martinis set the mood!

During the course of a superb four-course luncheon, topics of discussion ranged from crewing and training, emerging destinations, to upcoming international yacht shows, trends in superyacht design, as well as memorable experiences, standout itineraries and opportunities in Australia and abroad.

“Social events for interior crew are a regular occurrence in the Med and Caribbean but to date there have been no industry-led events in the Australia Pacific region,” continued Ms Egan.

“Interior crew, especially those of many years’ experience have a wealth of expertise to share, views on advancing the industry and how to attract and retain quality crew.”

Feedback from the day included sincere thanks from Stewardesses and charter managers for whom such as event was a welcome opportunity to meet, mingle and dissect current industry issues.

Tess Patchett, Operations & Charter Manager for Motor Yacht Charters Sydney commented on the “fantastic day”.

“Such a wonderful initiative and great way to network and meet new people.”

Sue Robinson from MY Tango said it was a wonderful event “where everyone there not only enjoyed themselves, but also connected on a mutual understanding. I for one know that next time I’m present at the Sydney Superyacht Marina I’ll take the time to walk the wharf and say ‘hi’ to the ladies.”

From Laurie Foulon, Charter Experience Manager at Ocean Alliance: “I felt the stews were very valued and loved to receive some attention. I look forward to further ideas for the next editions.”

Sponsored by Boat Style Yacht Interiors, Sydney Superyacht Marina and Major Yacht Services, the Sydney “Interior Motives” luncheon will become an annual event and there are plans for subsequent events in other locations throughout Australia and the South Pacific.

“Major Yacht Services is very pleased to be a sponsor of the Interior Motives event,” said Geoff Majer. “The interior department of a superyacht is an integral part of the whole superyacht crew.

“The Chief Steward/ess puts in long hours to ensure that the Owners and Guests, receive the ultimate in luxury and receive a positive experience. Therefore, it goes without saying that the Chief Steward/ess deserve recognition and reward for the hard work. I’m certain that this inaugural event will commence a long ongoing tradition.”

According to Clemens Overdijk “Sydney Superyacht Marina has been looking for ways to acknowledge the incredible teamwork that delivers those memorable yachting experiences for owners and their guests.

“Interior Motives rewards Chief Stewards who significantly contribute to those amazing experiences and allows for networking opportunities that benefit the broader industry.”

Guests received gift bags proudly supplied by leading industry product and service companies: Sunbrella, Pantaenius Insurance, Quality Marine Clothing and Ocean magazine.
